So I brought Willow to a SAR training day yesterday. Macleod picked up where he left off with wilderness search and did great. Willow was evaluated and not surprisingly had no interest in live find. So we evaluated her with cadaver. She wasn't repulsed by it nor was she overly interested in the scent. We're going to try again next week with some drive building. Main question: is it possible to build drive for cadaver scent if she has a high hunt drive overall? I assume it would be similar to how you train narcotics or explosives detection? I'm only experienced in area search/live find so this is totally new to me. I have some experience with training explosives detection though.
Maybe not ideal for a novice HRD handler to use a dog neutral to the scent?
