I have noticed that there have been several recalls on animal products lately. My pets mean the world to me and I am worried that I might be using a carpet odor removal that can be harmful to them. I am particularly concerned about all these cleaning products I use. I know that a lot of them have bad chemicals that are dangerous for animals. Does anyone know of any pet stain remover or other carpet stain removal products that are safe to use around pets and maybe certain chemicals that I need to watch out for?

I agree with the vinegar. It really works ;)
Do you have a carpet cleaner? HOT HOT water works. I boil mine, and then put it in my carpet cleaner. I've found that a lot of cleaners leave the carpet feeling almost sticky, compared to the hot water.

I use white vinegar too. I also use baking soda for odors. I just cleaned up a mess this morning with vinegar/water/a couple drops of dish liquid in a spray bottle and then sprinkled baking soda on the carpet after I cleaned up the mess. If you want to kill germs on hard surfaces, use peroxide and then white vinegar or vice versa. I put them in separate spray bottles because I read somewhere not to mix them together in one bottle. I spray one and then the other and then wipe it up. It's supposed to be very effective at killing bacteria/germs.

That's my problem. The smell I think disappears but I can't take the smell of using it to begin with.

I too use vinegar, water. 50-50 solution. When you clean with it for a second or two,it has vinegar smell to it but,the smell gets evaporated.I don't use bleach kind.

I like the smell of vinegar so it doesn't bother me, but my son doesn't like it. The smell doesn't last long, though. I even use white vinegar with my laundry because I read somewhere it's supposed to soften the clothes. I don't really know if it does but I use it anyway. I use Borax, baking soda and white vinegar for my laundry detergent/fabric softener. The clothes don't smell perfumy like they do if you use real laundry detergent and fabric softener but they have a fresh smell, which I like. I've been trying to go all natural about almost everything - for a lot of different reasons - for my own health, my family's health, my dogs' health, to help the environment and to save money. :)
