Hi guys-sorry it has been so long since I have updated...I have been foaling mares and I just got my last baby this morning, so I am now able to leave the farm and access my computer...my laptop got a virus and I am still working on it :(...The great news is that the little guy is doing SO GREAT! He has improved so much that my vet can't believe he is the same dog...he is much more alert and responsive. He can see and he can also hear! Both may be somewhat limited, but he certainly has been showing signs of improvement. He now cricles very rarely. He will break out when he sees me or hears me and he will actually come to me! He is even following me around begging for a bite of whatever I'm eating! It used to be that when you sat him down, he would go straight into circling and not stop until you physically stopped him, but he even licks my nose now!!! He will walk up to where I am sitting and nose me to pick him up...these seem like small things to most, but he was so unresponsive when he arrived that this is major progress! He has had dental work done and his oral/nasal fistulas have been fixed...he loves junkfood...I know I shouldn't but I can't help but indulge the old guy...he gets part of a cupcake from a 100 calorie pack before bed each night and he comes and gets me if I overlook it! Now that I can get back to normal, I will post some new pictures...he has gained 1/2 pound and I am so happy with his transition...I can even take him for walks on a leash! He will dig in the covers until he gets them just right...his personality is finally beginning to shine through. Just thought you guys would like to hear!!!

Thats cool :). Yay for people like you who give the oldies a chance! Wish there were more who adopt older dogs. Btw, does the vet know what was causing him to not be able to see or hear?

My husband calls him Milo. The vet thinks that he has a legion on his brain which is causing his problems with hearing, sight, balance and congnitive thinking, but she noticed such a big improvement in him since our last visit that she is beginning to wonder because there is usuaually no recovery. His vision is pretty good as long as the area is well lit and he is hearing more and more. He used to not acknowledge me when I spoke to him, but now he will turn and look at me and he will actually follow me. He had all but 2 teeth removed. His little mouth was a wreck. The vet still wants to do some more diagnostics but we are so happy with his progress. It is really much more than I thought possible. He is such a good little dog. He will go to the door and stand when he needs to potty. I can see that he is getting much more relaxed and he is allowing himself to feel happy...sometimes I wish that I could speak dog much more fluently so he could tell me about his life. I guess it doesn't matter as long as he understands that he can live happily ever after now and he seems to be coming to that conclusion. I am so proud of him. It is wonderful to see a sparkle in those eyes. There are so many people that would see a dog like him and think he was better off put to sleep, but if they could witness the things that I get an opportunity to see, then they would understand that these guys undergo a regeneration when they are exposed to love and they can have happy days, weeks, months and years!

Thankyou so much for this update. I appreciate it so much. I'm so glad this little old man found such a great home. Many times after dogs are adopted out I never hear or see of them again, and its SO great to be able to keep updated on him. Thankou so much. The old ones have their stories too, and they certainly deserve to be heard. I'm so glad you were willing to take a chance on this guy.

Milo, what a great name. It just took the right person to see the treasure in that little man. Thank you so much for all you've done for him.:hail: :hail: :hail:
