She may not have been a hater per se, but in Hades new group class there was a lady that complained because he wasn't muzzled. She was "uncomfortable" with him the class. Hades did bark and growl a few times, he feels he has to "police" everyone. If someone jumps on my trainer, he immediately thinks they're trying to hurt her, if another dog barks at another dog, he feels he *must* intervene before someone gets hurt! LOL.

But during 99% of the class he is more than focused at the tasks on hand.

She tried to avoid us most of the lesson during heeling and such. But I saw the light go on in her head during the SFE. Hades has a better SFE than Roxy. Very "showy", stands quite square on his own, perks his ears and stares straight ahead at me. When my trainer went to examine, she fully examines him teeth and all, well not his empty sack but you know what I mean ;) LMAO

We do it individually, so all eyes were on us. When she goes to examine his teeth, she got a lovely kiss right on the snapper! As soon as she approached him as well, his tail began wagging, although he didn't move a foot! LOL

After during the serpentine heeling, she commented on his focus and super quick and straight his swings were. Also, that his growling did not appear aggressive at all, more worried than anything.

About halfway through, maybe a bit longer, she stopped avoiding us like we were the plague! LOL. So, I hope that her mind has changed about us, and pitbulls in general. Hades made a great showing of an obedience dog though tonight!

You know, the only time I have ever felt afraid of a pit bull was when I saw one coming unleashed and alone. I do know people who have pit bulls and I honestly think they have good dogs. They don't behave any differently than any other dog any of my friends have. In my area, we have had incidents of horrible pit bull attacks, always from pits that were alone and wandering. Never once have we seen that kind of attack in a home setting.

The other thing that I only learned recently was the feelings about Rotties. I never saw Rotties as dangerous dogs, maybe because I know several Rotties who are pussycats. I still don't have a fear of them. The most recent dog attack we had around here was a Lab that was loose and attacked and killed a yorkie in its yard. I was totally shocked, because once again I always saw this breed as a gentle dog. I think I already mentioned that my cousin with whom I was raised has an Akita and I just adore that dog. I can't even imagine this dog being on an insurance ban list.

I'm not sure how these breeds got to the point where we are seeing these kinds of attacks. Maybe it's careless breeding? family treatment? Being chained? I don't know what the combo is but if you look back a few decades, these breeds did NOT have this reputation, except in cases of break-ins where the perp got exactly what he deserved and the dog did its job. I never remember the kind of hysteria we are seeing today on any of these breeds. I do remember when I was younger that Dobes had that kind of stigma. But now they seem to be off the hook.

So what's changed that has caused all of these attacks? Or is it just that they are more publicized now with the influence of the intenet?

Good work, both of you!

I love those little 'growls.' All of mine do it, but they aren't growling, it's just one of their grumbling vocalizations that expresses concentration and/or fretting over something. When they DO growl, you know it!

That's exactly it Renee!

It's a worried rumble sort of. Combined with perked ears and eyes full of attention. Very worried looking. It's not aggressive. Fret is a good word for it too. Hades makes that noise as well when Roxy's gone off at something outside. He won't go to look, but he makes the noise and looks in that direction, like, "Oh man, doesn't sound good. Mom, Roxy... someone gonna take care of that!?!?!" LOL
