Bio Spot has a whole website dedicated to people whose pets either had a bad reaction to the flea treatment or even died from it. Its scary scary stuff.

I hate having to put chemicals on my dogs' skin, but I've had no problems with Frontline. I think its wise to just stick to the good brands that have been around and don't try something new.

I have a film canister here full of alcohol and about 10 ticks including deer ticks which are so tiny and so hard to get off the dog. THis is what i removed after we got home from the dog park .I don't know what to do. I am scared of the chemicals...but i am scared of these too. I have never seen such a wicked year for ticks.

Yeah smkie, if I lived up there I'd be more scared of the ticks and what they can do than the chemicals.

Yah, I couldn't even tell I'd put anything on my dogs. The fleas and ticks were having parties on them :(
Yikes. Have you ever tried a natural repellant? I've heard of using garlic, but I don't think it'd work that great.

I got them their lyme shots. BUt that doens't protect Hyia from the ones that would drop off. I am lucky my dogs have such short coats, i found one on Victor's elbow that was no bigger then a period. Seriously. I looked at it with a loop and sure enough it was a tick. I can't tell on Pepper until they have swelled up a little and that is long enough to get infected. The bigger ticks i can find, but not the deer. Dogs can still get rocky mountain spotted fever too. I dont' know about bartonella.

Scary stuff. My dogs were both covered in tiny ticks when I rescued them. It was so freaky because like you said they were as tiny as periods so I couldn't tell where they were. My dogs were from the same rescue, but I got them like 6 months apart. I told the lady that they both came with ticks, but she probably can't get the infestation under control.

Bio Spot has been in trouble for years. That stuff has resulted in a lot of sick dogs, and many dog deaths. If you google it, you'll find more info.

I try to avoid those chemicals at all costs, and usually never have a flea problem. I bathe in dawn dish soap every 2 weeks, and flea comb everynight, and never have flea's. Bo kept getting a couple despite this, so we put Advantage on him about a month and a half ago, and never had another flea show up. I don't plan on putting it on them again unless absolutely necessary.

At my vet, when I worked there, a dog died from using BioSpot. Sent him into organ failure, he died at the clinic the next day.

And I put Revolution on Blue once, only for the heartworm preventative since I can't get a pill down him, and he went half bald within days, and broke out in rashes. Never touched that stuff again.

I've never had a problem with frontline - except for the time I had no choice and had to give Morgan a bath the day after applying it. I tried not to get her wet on her back, but she's so small and squirmy, it couldn't be helped. That was awful, but she recovered eventually.

I won't vaccinate myself or the dogs for Lyme. I have pulled ticks off myself, but the only ones I find near the dogs are dead and in the bottom of the crate.

We had that happen too and we can't use frontline anymore. I think the fleas are immune.

I need flea and tick meds myself, I just pulled two ticks off of me.

Same here, frontline does not work, and hasn't for a few years.

I don't use flea meds every month anymore unless I just have to. So far, knock on wood...we haven't had any this year. We do have a guy come out and spray the majority of the yard once or twice per year. However, I'm not sure how healthy that is either. But, it really helps keep down the flea and tick population.

Sure puts us between a rock and a hard place .
We really are this year. I have never used anything for fleas or ticks on Meg. I don't worry about fleas really at all, but this year, the ticks are just horrible. I did the whole Lyme thing twice with the horse; I really don't want to do it again with the dog. I put Frontline on her for the first time ever last month, but have been hearing from a lot of local people that it has stopped working for them as well. I haven't seen another tick on Meg since I used it, but I don't know if it's the meds or just luck.

A bunch of people on our agility club list are talking about a different med - starts with a "p". My email isn't working great right now, so I can't go check. Anyone know what that might be?

Isn't it just the craziest year ever in the tick dept? I have seen about a hundred of them so far. Even my brother found one crawling on his hand in a resturant. I have 4 bites right now from deer ticks. I really dont' know what to do. THey say there is a new lyme case for humans every 6 minutes. I bet this year that it will be far greater.
