Potentially, anyway. And this one cannot come home with me as my schedule is too **** crazy, so when his time his up he'll be off to the shelter. :(

He was scheduled for boarding in at work for about a week and a half. His owner called two days after his scheduled pick up date and asked if we would be able to board him until September 1st. She said she was stuck out of state with no money (she lost her credit card) and couldn't get him until then. When dogs stay longer than two weeks we require a down payment on the account. She already had a previous balance with us due to two checks bouncing and currently has about $500 worth of charges she's going to have to pay. She was supposed to have made a payment on his account last Friday and now, almost a week later, we haven't heard anything back from her.

This sounds eerily familiar to Kiba's story. *sigh*

Bubba is an intact male eight month old Husky/Pit Bull/WTF? mix. He has to be the weirdest dog I have ever laid eyes on. At first I thought he was ugly, but he's grown on me. :lol-sign:
When his owner dropped him off she stated that he wasn't good with other dogs, but I haven't really seen any aggression from him. Hesitant and unsure and in need of socialization, yes, but not aggression. He does NOT like the other intact male dog we currently have boarding, though. Again, I have seen much worse, but when he gets barked and snarled at through the fence he'll bark right back.
He has no manners at all and doesn't know any commands. But even though his training is a bit lacking, he is a very sweet boy. Friendly, likes to play, not too hyper, doesn't seem to have any HA issues, fairly quiet, doesn't mark, doesn't seem to be destructive. He had some kennel cleanliness issues there for a bit, but we've moved him into a new cage and are taking him out in the grass after he gets done eating and I don't think he's had an accident at all since we moved him and started the new walking regime.

So, if anyone is potentially interested in him or knows of someone who might be...stay tuned. He may be in need of a home by the end of the month. Cross your fingers that things work out for him.

And pictures! These were taken with my cellphone and he wouldn't stop moving so they aren't the best, but they're better than nothing!

What an odd looking boy! Especially those ears, haha.

It's a shame this person sounds they are just going to drop him, :( Do you guys go after people legally for theft of services when they don't pay?

I think he is a lovely boy. His face is so bright and has so much expression. Big time vibes on a good forever home coming his way.

Honestly, this is when I'm happy I can't do another dog right now. I am in LOVE with him!!! Think he is SO cool looking and if there was an ounce of possibility I would be so tempted

Hope either the owner decides to be decent or you find him a great home

Oh man... PLEASE tell me there is NO WAY to get him to California, even if you have to lie to me! lol I want my whole sled dog team to be rescued pit bull/husky mix types... they all seem to be super hyper and need a job. Yes, "they all" - it's not that uncommon of a mix, strangely enough lol But anyways, I'm rambling...! He's gorgeous!

Yup. We've only had it happen a few times (maybe once every year or two), but once the animal is considered abandoned we turn the monetary side of things over to collections, I do believe. And the person in question is pretty much black listed for ever using our services again.

He's actually really not that energetic. He's been boarding now for three weeks and hasn't had any issue with it. When I let him out to play after my shift is over he'll run around a bit and get loved up on and chase a ball a few times, but what he really wants to do is go back inside to see if food appeared in his dish again. For an eight month old puppy to be kenneled for three weeks with the only exercise being four walks a day he's doing really, really well.

Never know until you try! :p

I'm sure we can get him to California. :D

I'm still hoping his owner will come back for him...but it isn't looking likely. Unfortunately, if he is abandoned, the only thing I'll be able to do for him is keep an eye on him while he's at the shelter and tell them to let me know if he ever needs a break or he's running out of time. The shelters in the area aren't high kill (that I'm aware of), but I know one has a really low adoption rate and the care isn't the greatest.

I'm maxed out on dogs... especially males, unfortunately :(

We're going to try to get a hold of the owner again tomorrow and see what is up. After talking with the receptionist a bit, it really doesn't sound like she will be coming back for him. When she dropped him off, she asked Erin if we could take a picture of him and post him on craigslist for her...if that isn't a red flag, I don't know what is.

So seriously...if someone is really interested let me know! We'll know more by next week. I could have him here temporarily if he had a place lined up - just can't do another four month deal. lol

I have to wonder - how common is that?? For a dog to be abandoned at boarding kennel (or doggy day care, petsitter, etc)?

It's just crazy for me to even think about  Unbelievable

Not too uncommon here, it seems. We're a vet clinic first and foremost, though, so we also have some dump offs on occasion. We've had quite a few over the years that I can remember.

Maggie, a Boxer. Her owner couldn't keep her and was boarding her until she could find a home.
A stray yellow lab that someone brought in. A coworker fostered her and placed her.
Beau and Savannah, a Lab and GSD/Boxer mix. Boarded and never picked up. We had them for a year. :(
Younie and Yuni, two Corgis. Boarded and never picked up. They came in as puppies and grew up in the kennel.
Dexter, a Pittie. He was thrown out of a moving truck in our parking lot.
Lexie, a Boxer. Owner couldn't keep her and boarded her until she found a new home.
An Aussie/Husky mix. Boarded until he found a home via his owner.
A Hound/Pittie mix. Someone tied him up to a pole outside a side door and left him there.
Kiba, handsome Pittie boy. Boarded and never picked up.

We've also had quite a few stray/orphaned cats, but they aren't owner surrenders.

I'd say we have something like this happen maybe once a year...this year we just seem to be attracting idiots and have had two (the Hound/Pittie mix and Kiba - three, counting Bubba) happen in the span of a few months.

Trying to poke my husband into it. That dog is just so cool looking, and it would be a real shame if he ended up in a shelter (course, it's a shame for ANY dog to end up in a shelter :/). Where abouts are you located again?

You need him! ^^ If/when he is officially surrendered I can bring him home to see how he does in a house setting, too, if that would help. Test him around cats/kids/livestock/etc. I'm going to be out of town all weekend (leaving tomorrow, get back Sunday night) and I won't be in at work again until Thursday, I think, but I'll keep in touch with coworkers and see what is going on. When I go back in to work I can try to get more photos of him, too, with a camera this time instead of my phone.

I'm in Lafayette, Indiana.

That is a really neat looking dog. A blue eyed brindle. Cool stuff. Hopefully his owner returns!

FFFFFF I'm in NH :/ Would there be any way a transport to NH could be arranged? We also have a cat and are preparing to have a kid within the next year. I'd absolutely be willing to work with him, but he'd have to be good with cats and kids.

Above all, I hope his owner comes back for him and keeps him. But if that doesn't happen, I'll see if I can soften my husband up enough to giving this poor dog what sounds like a much needed break from life :(
