I am doing a photo documentary project on one of our local animal shelters. Here are some pics of some of the dogs. The girl in the first pic I was dying to take home, but unfortunately I can't have another dog right now.

The place is on about 7 acres of land and it is privately owned. They usually have about 250-300 dogs there at any time. If anyone is interested in any of these dogs please pm me. This is located in TX, but if anyone is interested I will be happy to talk to them and see what kind of arrangements could be made. And of course I can find out information on them, etc.

This picture just caught my heart. You can see he/she is getting up there in years. Poor baby! That's a dog that deserves a wonderful forever home to live out its years at.

I am such a sucker for the oldies.

Oh, they are all such good-looking dogs! And something sweet in all their faces... I would be a crying, drivelling mess going in there and not being able to take them all home with me. That's why I adopted a dog in foster care. I couldn't bear to go to the shelter. But at least, I freed up that foster home, and they rescued another shelter dog the very next day after I got Hudson.

That is terrible!!

Don't you guys wonder how soooo many wonderful and beautiful dogs end up in shelters? What a sad statement on our world - EVERYTHING'S DISPOSABLE!!!

I will have another someday and I'd love to have a rescue after I have more experience and my children get a little older.

Go kiss your babies and tell them that you love them!!!:)

What aggravates me is that one of the local Pet Store chains has an add on TV every morning for their puppy mill dogs....

Great photos! The good thing is that the dogs at this shelter have a chance...so many out there never get past animal control or wind up dead on the street. Here's a photo from a typical evening at my "shelter":

Here's one of my "throw-aways":

All the dogs at this shelter are mostly medium size and bigger. I assume the small ones get adopted out a lot faster. And the puppies. Someone came and adopted a lab puppy while we were there.

This weekend they are having Strut for a Mutt. You donate $20 and you walk either your dog or a shelter dog. I haven't been to it before, but I am going to take pictures to go with my project. My sister is going to walk Zoe I think. The shelter needs donations. Most of the stuff is paid for by the couple that owns it. I can't even imagine how much it would cost to feed 300 dogs, let alone shots, spay/neuter, etc.
