I do not think you will find this a place where designer dogs and breeding practices are looked upon in a favorable manner.
Alvin looks like a very sweet dog. I hope he does not suffer from many of the problems that come from such breeding practices. I hope his parents are not in the disgraceful housing that so many of these puppymills here in Missouri are kept. I think you should research carefully about where and how these designer dogs are produced. Then hopefully you will not encourage such practices in the future especially for Alvin's sake.

Sorry Smkie - no offense intended. I realize Alvin is a mutt and designer dog is another word for mutt, but he's a very lovable and cute pup. He's taught me that it doesn't matter who you are, you deserve attention and respect just because you're HERE - NOW.

Personally, I don't have a problem with people buying mixed breeds from breeders, as long as the breeder is a responsible breeder. Check out this thread http://www.chazhound.com/forums/t787/ to see the guidelines of a responsible breeder.

If the person doesn't fit those guidelines, they should not be breeding ANYTHING, whether it's a full-blooded, registered litter or a litter of mixed breeds.

If I wanted a mixed breed and couldn't find a responsible breeder, I'd simply go to the shelter. I have no better idea what I'm getting from the shelter than what I'm getting from a bad breeder, so I might as well save a life!

OOh. Looks like you got him from a puppy mill, huh?

Sometimes, it's just all about where you want your money to go as a consumer.

He is a cute fluffy little dog. Good luck with him!

I think the Missouri breeder would be highly offended if you called her kennel a puppy mill. At 12 weeks, when he arrived from Missouri, he had clearly been with people. But he doesn't matter - he's a wonderful addition to the family.

I will correct my post i should not have spoken for the general pop. I myself and me have a problem with this type of breeding becuase of the trail of horror it involves and I find it very hard not to speak out. Alvin is beautiful. There is no doubt about that. I will always have a problem with encouraging the practices that produced him. I apologize for my post. It sounded to me like you were promoting designer puppies. Designer puppies are what a great number of puppymills produce. Because of our temperate climate Missouri is a hot bed of them. He is here and now and i hope he has a wonderful life. Good luck with your contest.

You don't have to be a puppy mill to be a bad breeder.

I'm just saying this because a lot of people browse this forum and see your puppy and think (rightfully so!) that he's absolutely adorable. Before they go out and buy a puppy just like him, I hope that they do some research into what makes a good breeder versus a bad breeder and educate themselves on why this is SO important.
