I was at the park today with Sunny, and there were three other pups about his size so I politely asked if he could play with them. Well for one, Sunny plays off-leash whenever it is safe. He has coming when called down like a pro and doesn't really like to be out of my sight anyway (he'll literally sit down and CRY if I am not in his line of sight and closer then 20 feet away 
) So when the lady bugged out about me taking him off of his lead I was a little annoyed. "Won't he run away? Isn't that DANGEROUS? won't he hurt our dogs?" (keep in mind her dogs are all twice sunny's size.) Sigh. So I kept his leash on and let him greet the other dogs. Then came the barrage of "what kind of dog is he? how old is he, what is his name?He's a lab right? He really looks like a lab. Are you SURE he isn't a lab mix?" me:yeah, very sure, mini australian shepherd named sunny, 4 months old. so the dogs are playing nicely, barking at each other, play bows from all involved, happy chortles galore from all. leashes got tangled so I dropped Sunnys to let him untangle. Again with the "He isn't going to run away? My dogs would run away!" (just because mine is well trained and yours aren't doesn't make me wrong!) I tried to keep it polite since Sunny and her pups were having a good time so I asked about her dogs. Mixes she said, a lab X, a golden retriever/doberman X and a german shepherd X. "Oh, I said, where did you get them, they are precious? From a rescue or from someone you know?"
"NO she said, from a breeder, they are pure, not from the pound!" hmm...So I was getting annoyed with her banter and Sunny became occupied with a bird or something. We left to her saying to her two girls "I'm sure that is some sort of golden or lab mix, look he looks just like our golden mix, same colors and everything"
Now I am not the type of person to get hung up on dog breed, a mutt is as great as a purebred in my book (sunny isn't even the right color that AKC will recognize him as a purebred ...big deal right? ) but don't you think I know what my dog is? And to say that your dogs are purebred mix dogs and get indignant when someone asks if you adopted them? I'm so confused. I still can't get over her freaking out that Sunny was going to run away and then seemed to get annoyed when he didn't. Oh well, takes all sorts to make the world turn huh? Just thought I would vent. Doing a lot of that here lately
