my foster dog Narnia went to her new home today, but was returned shortly after.
they said she was too big! I am SURE her sized didnt change from the time they met her up, to the time they got home with her.

I am so disappointed!

in the past two days i have learned so much about the "rules" of fostering.

-its hard to not get attached
-sometime dogs are resource guarders and do not play nice with your own dogs
-do NOT count your chickens before they hatch

I am loving fostering so far though. I plan to do it again. I am so glad she is with me and not at that shelter. the shelter is a no kill that is very low budget. Narnia was covered in mud and poop when i got her. she was in a small run with about 6 other dogs. (most small breeds)

She grew overnight? Amazing! (/end dripping sarcasm ...)

They probably felt that was a better excuse than something like 'we changed our mind' or 'she cried the whole night'.

Good luck. She's a sweet looking dog.

Every time you think you've heard every excuse - you'll hear a new on that shocks you ;)

Do not count your chickens before they hatch -- I love this one. Some people in rescues have a hard time learning this lesson ;) When adoptions are finalized they often line up a dog to go in that dog's place (in a foster home). So when the adoption falls through, there's a dog who doesn't have a place to go, and there's a last minute scramble to place him/her  :D

It's Always hard not to get attached, isn't it?

YES! I'm having a hard time right now with some of my fosters trying to explain that not all dogs like having a brand new dog hang around their face while they're chewing a bone! And after I TOLD them how important it was to keep everything valuable put away. It really suprises me that there are not more dog fights associated with resource guarding around new dogs; one more example of how much our dogs have to put up with to live with us.

/soapbox.

no toys allowed out with Narnia out!
she puts them all in a pile, lays on top of them and will not let any dog near them!
and she will guard the whole area of where a bone WAS!
but just from dogs. she is fine with people.

Yes, I guess it is good that they did return her. it wasnt the right home for her apparently... for whatever the real reason might be.

maybe it is because she jumps up. I honestly do not know any other reason! spayed, UTD on shots, housebroken, awesome personality, sweet and freindly. but she will jump straight up at you like she is on a pogo stick!

When I got Ollie they told me that he was very protective of his stuffed toys and yes he would shove as many as 4 or 5 in his mouth . A would put his favorites up when his cousins came by . Two years later he'll now not only share , but will take them and bones to his friends . Yes , if ripped during a tug of war the guts fly ! But oddly the old toys that were Bubba's and Chips stay in tact ! Vibes from above ??

Sorry to hear that- she looks very cute.
What shelter are you fostering for- my little aussie type dog came from a shelter in Ky (Bowling Green)- they seem to have a lot of little herding dogs down there ....she was sent to a northern shelter, where we got her........... when we got her home we found out she was a little monster with other dogs (reactive)...but we worked very very hard with her issues, (and still are)maybe if the people who took her had some problem and they wern't willing to work through it- then they were not the right home for her- she is a cutie, she will find the right home :)
