We have had never ending rain this entire spring and summer along with mostly cool weather and basically just gross.

Finally get some 80 degrees and sun and I can't even walk outside my house because of swarms of Misquotes. I can't remember the last time they were this bad but it's just miserable.

I went out to try and play some disc with the dogs and couldn't do it, they couldn't stop biting at the bugs biting them and I couldn't breath without inhaling multiple ones.

So done.

I got bit in the neck more times than I could count and even in the foot, as well as all the normal bite zones.

I am so over skeeters.

And Asian beetles. June bugs, too.

Mosquitos and spiders are probably the only animals I genuinely hate. It's quite a muggy climate here where I live so the mosquitos are almost always running rampant, unfortunately.

We took the canoe out to a nearby reservoir on Thursday. It was a bit windy so we paddled to the leeward side of a small heavily wooded island for a bit of a rest. I swear, we were swarmed by mosquitoes. Yeah, in a canoe when all you want to do is that mad, flailing, heebie jeebie "OMG MOSQUITOES ARE EATING ME ALIVE!!!" dance. If it hadn't have rained the night before (middle of farmland so the water quality was a wee bit suspect) I would have bailed.

Bats. We need more bats.

"A single little brown bat (myotis) can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes in a single hour, and is one of the world's longest-lived mammals for its size, with life spans of almost 40 years."

Hahaha, the bat in the picture on that page looks like it's smiling.

I went off trail on a hike last week so I could beeline back to the car because of the mosquitoes. There is so much standing water from all the rain that they are breeding like rabbits.

Our spring was horrible like that. We had record rainfall and flooding throughout the entire period where we have nice warm but not scorching temperatures. We were rained out of agility for like a month and a half. It sucked.

And now we are swimming in mosquitos.

We had the same problem a couple of weeks ago, mosquitos everywhere. Now we have had some record breaking heat and it seems to have really cut down on the mosquito population.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, OP was complaining about misquotes! ;)

Super hot and dry here. Not enough for misquotes, but the flies are attracted to anything wet.

Just out of curiosity, does mosquito spray on the body like Bug Off or something not work?

We were just camping for a few days last weekend and there were tons of mosquitos but applying mosquito spray every 2-3 hours seems to help for the most part. It does smell horrible and makes me feel gross, but I prefer it to getting 20+ bites in 30 minutes.

Ok, so I'm in Missouri..we have like 9 ponds on the property, standing water all over because we have had an awful amount of rain, and I haven't battled mosquitos at all. I do think the property is professionally sprayed but I'd still think we'd get them from the standing water in other parts..I don't know.

Now, we do have black flies and they are biting and leaving mosquito or ant type bites on my legs :(. I just got some Repel to try and stop that because it's driving me crazy, sometimes I don't feel them.

We had "Off!" on, but I think these mosquitoes thought it was condiment. That and I put it on before I changed into my sandals. I swear, if they didn't go after the bits of skin between my sandals, they went for my eyeballs.

Stupid thing was that we knew how bad it was in that area, it's been reported in the papers for years. Just didn't think that would be an issue that "Off!" couldn't deal with. We were wrong.

They're calling these "Daybiter" mosquitoes, which makes them sound like something out of a Stephen King movie.

OMG. And here I thought I was just a magnet!
With OFF I am being eaten alive. So I tried a different brand, and I was eaten alive, too. Bitten in the face, scalp, through my clothing, plus all the "normal" places...it's awful! And mosquito bites make me swell up more than the typical person. And I don't care what anyone says you CAN feel it when they bite! I went outside for like 5mins and I had over 20 countable bites on me. Excuse me while I go cry and rock in the corner.....

I caved and I bought a thermacell clip on. I haven't noticed the mosquito population since that. That stuff just works.

Also if you're using the spray on stuff I do use sawyer fisherman's friend and it also works sans the deet.
