I got some great advice here when I got my first dog, and I've been lurking ever since. But now I've got a new dog and need some advice. We just adopted a 2 year old Boxer from animal control and he is eating all the chew toys in the house. Fortunately the only things he chews on are toys, but I'm afraid if I can't find something a little more durable, he'll run out of appropriate things to chew. Murphy has already destroyed a couple that our Beagle mix has had for 3 years. Any recommendations on toys that will last awhile with a strong chewer?
He's a great dog. Fully housebroken, and crate trained as we discovered yesterday. He and Maya are getting along pretty well. Luckily I think he's going to let her be the dominant one even though she is half his size. He's just so laid back, not once has he even responded in any way to her growling at him. She only seems to growl when he runs past her and knocks into her on the stairs, or when he climbs on the bed and doesn't stay at the end of the bed. She has no problem with him being on the bed unless he tries to get in "her" spot up near our heads. If anyone has any advice on how to make having a new brother as easy as possible for Maya please let me know.
Our vet said the majority of rescue boxers he sees in this area are abused or neglected, but that Murphy looks like he's in pretty good shape, and it's pretty obvious he hasn't been abused. He's missing a little fur on his paws which could either be demodex mange or just the conditions he was kept in, but other than that, no issues, we just have to keep an eye on it. Animal control said he was turned in because his owner lost his job and couldn't afford him. He is absolutely wonderful with people especially kids. He just couldn't get enough of giving my husband's one year old brother kisses. Overall I think we got very, very lucky with him. So anyway, here are some pictures:
This toy lasted about 3 minutes after this photo was taken.

Maya looks upset in this one, but he jumped up there after her and they stayed there for about 20 minutes.
