Yep. I was just echoing the same thing you said. You called us snobs, and I personally do not appreciate being considered a snob simply because I prefer purebred dogs
nice to know you and lizmo are the same person. Kinda wierd. But ok. :rofl1:

If you are going to make smart ass comments about me being dumb for trying to understand som'thing...then sure you can be one too. Last time I checked when you ask training questions about things you didn't get, I wasn't a jerk to you for trying to understand. Once again, sorry your having a bad day, nice to see you.

As of May 19, 2009 we have found the mutation present in over 75 breeds as well as mixed breed dogs.
and how does that change what I said about it being prevalent? It doesn't.

Most numbers are from screened dogs. Only because screening centres keep databases. Vets don't report things like this unless they are a part of a study.

as well you have the issue of people bothering to find out. Take cataracts in JRTs. I have met dogs with juvinle cataracts, you would never know from the dog's behaviour that there was anything wrong. Unless you are a breeder, or a breeder has asked you to check.. is JQ Public going to have his dog checked for things that are not obvious?

Dog gets old and infirm, so many pet owners assume this is normal. Could be a genetic disease. But once again unless they test for it, it could be labelled 'old age'
once again thank you for being one of the few people who can help me understand this stuff without jumping on me. It is appreciated.

Actually it does. Prevalent means wide spread. You are saying (erroneously) that these issues are wide spread in PB dogs only. If it is found in mixed breeds, and being found IYO makes in prevalent.. then yes its prevalent in mixed dogs too.

then the sources need to fix their findings ;) Iam mearly regurgitating what the vet community is publishing in their articles. :)

I completely see your point and what you are getting at dekka. But every single hit on that disease came up with "this disease is found mostly in breeds A B and C".
That's because you can't really know what's present in all sorts of mixes. Too many variables and as has been mentioned before they're not often tested unlike a purebred.

You need to go back and reread. I said I doubt you'd understand BECAUSE you were so set in your view point.

Can you not debate without calling names? Calling someone a "liar" or "snob" is infantile.

Then this is the issue. One should never just regurgitate. One should take in all sorts of information, and form their own. Even in the vet community (any science really) there are biases, agendas etc. You need to read more than the conculsions in journal articles, but the methods as well. Find out what the sample sizes are, where did they get their samples from? (ie all breeder donates with a few mutt clients mixed in?)

If you tested all puppy milled PB dogs you are likely going to get a different result than well bred PB dogs.

How were the dogs defined? Did the researchers require proof of breed?

Never ever just spit out what you have read.. digest it yourself ;)

Again...I NEVER called you dumb! Where do I say you're dumb? I never said it! I did however imply that you're a "rescue snob" AFTER you implied that I'm a "breed snob".

and how does that change what I said about it being prevalent? It doesn't.
The list includes mixed breeds. And if there are 75 pure breeds known to carry it, that's 75 breeds that can be mixed and end up with it in mixed breeds.

had I had more than a minute to read, I would have :)

I'll leave now. Its clear that many people who I thought were my friends aren't. Have fun bashing me, I'm sure its funny. Whats infantile is people not accepting that iam entitled to my opinion and that I was simply trying to understand others POV.

There's a way to express opinions without putting people down for not agreeing with you.

I don't have a problem with you having an opinion, it's just it came across very very condescending, which is the problem I had with it. You do not seem willing to consider that other people might have a different opinion than you.

Well, looks like I'll be taking Harper back so that I can find a blind, lame dog with a horrible temperament that is dog and human aggressive with severe digestive issues so that I have to spend all my time trying to rehab this dog and all my money trying to fix issues that I didn't cause so I can get on a forum and make others feel bad

Lets take it easy ladies........if you'd like to resort to LOL cats, that's fine, LOL But those sarcastic posts degrading shelter dogs who are innocent in all of this are uncalled for.

Oh I wasn't degrading shelter dogs. thats why I said I would have to FIND one. Because to adopt one of the many sweet, friendly, cute dogs would be too easy, then I wouldnt get credit for being selfless..so I need to go on a search for a TRUE charity case lol
