#155-#160-Animal Gifts-Bowmanville Zoo-The star of this entry was Limba the 53 year old Asian Elephant.Protesters had planned to block the parade so the Parade committee decided not have Limba in it.Discussions took place, the protesters backed off, police beefed up security, the protesters were walking along the parade route,Police followed right along. The comittee allowed Limba in the Parade, thanks to a facebook group called We Want Limba in the Santa Claus Parade.it wasn't looking good for Limba to be in it,a growth, possibly cancerous was found. She was feeling well enough the day before and she was good to go.people cheered when they saw her and took pictures and applauded.the head of the Zoo thanked us fro our support,if it wasn't for us,Limba and the Zoo may not have been in the parade.they carried a sign that said thank you Bowmanville. She had pictures taken of her at Memorial park at the end of the parade. On her way back she was brought down a street just north of us and my niece's children and two others got their picture taken with Limba. She is getting more tests done at the end of this month and hope all goes well for her.The protesters had a protest planned at the Zoo Saturday,we were told to detour away from the Zoo so they could not have an audience to voice things,it was a cold day anyway and they gave up.

The parade had 73 entries this year,up from 46 last year due to the lifting of the no advertising ban on floats.the whole parade from start to finish took 2 hours and 15 minutes and 1 hour and 14 minute to pass by where we were.
