Hi all. I have a 6 week old Stafford Terrier named Rashida. Love her to death but she keep missing the training pad spot to poop. She does ok sometimes with pee pee, but poop is another story. She rips up the pads when in the fenced in area under my table in the kitchen (perhaps out of being bored or angry). The area is a big enough to place her small cage unto as well. I try to leave the cage out so she can have more room, while in under my table. Now she has 2 location to release. One location as mentioned is under the fenced in table...the other location is close to the kitchen entrance with a pad placed there. She gets it sometimes then misses often. I was so frustrated last night that I rubbed her nose in it and pinched her behind the neck and threw her into the cage for about an hour...I felt so bad. I know I gotta be more patient. I found myself explaining to her that the pads are for releasing......helppppppppp

Is there anyway to train your dog outside? 6 weeks old? Usually they dont even leave their mothers until 8 weeks old. It could take months to train your dog to go where you want them to. She should never be placed in her crate as punishment but to learn that it is a safe haven and not for peeing or pooping. My puppy was in it for 15 months until I allowed her to sleep with us. Every night and every time I went away she went into her crate and she learned quickly not to dirty in her crate and then took her out immediately when i brought her out of her crate. This is a tiny puppy, they do not know or understand where and how you want them to go to the bathroom. Taking outside is always the best with a reward when they potty outside. You have to have ALOT of patience and time to train a puppy and it could take months. If you insist on using pads. Put the crate somewhere else and when she goes on the pad, reward her and clean up the pad immediately. This will have to be done over and over and over. She has to understand when she comes out of the crate she needs to use the pad for potty (put her on a lease) and continually take her there and so “go pee, or poop” and when she does, reward her.

Releasing your impatience on your pup could let her associate the cage as a type of punishment, so you're better to conduct her with some positive reinforcement. Try to observe her poo time and behaviors. Once she is going to "take action", move her to the pads. If she does, praise her and give lots of treats, you could need to repeat it for days. However, if she doesn't do the business on the pads, don't blame her, pick her "gift" on the pads and gently tell her "here is your title". But some dogs really dislike to leave their poo on the pads, you might have to change your strategy-going potty outside.
