What I have learned to do with my Molly, who always used to snap, is I close my hand around the treat so so it's in the middle of a fist and then hold it slightly in front of me, letting her sniff it. And then, chiming "Gentle, Molly," I slowly open my hand and allow her to take it slowly.

So I walk my neighbor's little Pomchi, Honey,and she absolutely loves it. But after the first ten or so walks, she started acting up. Whenever her owner gets her leash, Honey starts to growl in a very non-playful way and jump up on her. And she'd say something along the lines of "Cut it out!"...
