Behavioral issues between my 2 dogs

I'm a first-time multiple dog owner. A little background: My (English, we think) coonhound Abby is 2 and a half, almost 3 and I adopted her in March 2012. A little over a month ago, we added a new dog to the household, a beagle/foxhound mix named Lucy. We're not sure of her exact age, but we...

Dog #2! Curious about her makeup...

Interesting, thanks Pops2. That might explain why I haven't seen the treeing behavior in her (although she does sometimes jump up on people - not sure if that's just because she's still very young and energetic). She is quite a runner, just about as good as my coonhound.

Dog #2! Curious about her makeup...

Thanks for the input, Miakoda. Very interesting. :) I've been looking for both Beagle and Treeing Walker instincts in her. So far she doesn't seem to tree like my coonhound (unsure if she's TW or English - DNA test showed TW but her coloring is more like an English) Abby. But who knows, maybe...

Dog #2! Curious about her makeup...

Thank you so much! :) Neither walkers nor foxhounds are really common in my area... I'm in NY about 30 miles from NYC. She is originally from Louisiana though - Monroe area I believe. The rescue group hails from that area and they save a lot of walkers... some foxhounds, but mostly walkers. I...

Dog #2! Curious about her makeup...

Thanks guys for the input. Her face does look pretty foxhound-ish to me. She's so small she's kind of like a mini me, lol. Her bark is even a bit higher-pitched (with a bit of howl sometimes). My coonhound's bark is quite a bit deeper (well duh I guess since she's bigger).

Dog #2! Curious about her makeup...

I just adopted a second dog, another rescue. Her name is Lucy and they believe she's around a year and a half old. She's from Louisiana (was abandoned by her family when they moved away, sad story). They first mentioned her as a "pocket coonie", as she's tri-colored like a Treeing Walker...

    Excited Mouthing - Advice?

Thanks MicksMom and Kilter for the advice. :) I've started giving her toys instead when she gets in that mood. Sometimes she'll take them and sometimes she'll drop them, bark at me and want to do something else instead (or continue mouthing). But you have a very good idea there Kilter, I'm going...

Thanks for the advice, emc. I'll try that.

    Excited Mouthing - Advice?

My dog Abby is a hound mix... we believe a beagle/treeing walker coonhound or beagle/other coonhound or even beagle/foxhound. Anyway she's just over a year old and still has LOTS of energy, which I've heard is typical of coonhounds/foxhounds at least (the purebred beagle I had before this was a...

Had DNA test done, but curious

Oh I didn't know that... very interesting :) I'd love to see a beagle treeing... wonder if there are some videos around. She definitely sight trees, as you could probably tell in the link to the video I posted a few posts back.

Had DNA test done, but curious

I know what some of you guys are saying re: the tests and not being accurate. Thanks for the link, pendragoncorgis. I've heard that they have been ridiculously inaccurate when purebreds are tested. That said, yeah, Rosanahart, I really can't see the greyhound at all in her. I've read that...

Had DNA test done, but curious

Thanks for the input, Pops2, very interesting. Also, funny you should mention running walker. Someone else told me they thought she could have some july foxhound in her. She is very fast and takes off like a shot after anything that could be prey (she also likes to stalk the neighbors' cat while...

Had DNA test done, but curious

Thanks for your input guys. I've heard various things about these tests, some have said they weren't accurate at all and others said they were very accurate. Was curious and wondering what others thought.

Had DNA test done, but curious

I adopted my dog Abby last March when she was about 5 mos. old. The rescue group thought she was a beagle/treeing walker coonhound mix but weren't sure (the people at the shelter from which they rescued her at 8 wks old just said she was "beagle"). A few friends thought she was a foxhound or...
