But the question is why has it always been like this. What is the mentality, the unstated assumptions, that allowed this status quo to develop and continue? Could it possibly be because cats were/are at a subconscious level deemed by society to be inferior to dogs, somehow warranting less...

This is sad, but true. I wish it did not have to come down to this, because again, it is yet another example, of animals paying the price with their lives for HUMAN choices. And this is yet another reason for people to ensure that their cats, their beloved cats, do not go out unsupervised...

Would somebody from the "dogs are different" camp please answer my question about Fluffy, whenever they get a chance. Thanks. I think their answer to this question may reveal quite a bit for purposes of this debate.

Punky, while I have stated my opinion about cats roaming unsupervised, I do wish to thank you for all your efforts at TNR. I think this is very important and noble work.

So what if there is a dog, let's call him Fluffy, who is a submissive, tiny dog, that poses no threat to even an ant (you know what I mean). A completely harmless dog that is not barky, will not run up to people, has zero prey drive, etc etc. Would you be okay with letting said Fluffy run...
