Let me give this scenario that I have seen around FB regarding the refugees: I have a bag of M&M's, but 5% are poisoned and the rest are safe to eat, would you still eat them? probably not.

Also this:
This is a very weak argument... I can simply give you this then, as a ridiculous argument in return. A large percentage of serial killers are white! What gives?

Now putting aside these kinds of silly case-by-case rebuttals, there are violent criminals within every demographic and no matter where you live. The world isn't perfect. There are crimes in your own city every day, just google the statistics- criminals are all around you, some violent, every day, many are just young adults. And assuming the demographics of where you live, the majority are white criminals. Are you going to move out of Texas? Out of the US? Move to the moon?

I totally understand your worry about terrorists secretly smuggled in within the refugees though. That is a more fair argument and source of worry. But you have to also remember that many terrorists are already based in the US- think of the terrorist attacks of the past few years, the Boston marathon bombing. They were young, white adults. So again, case-by-case demographics do not apply... or they do, and you can suspect every white, black, hispanic, etc around you and live in a constant state of hate and paranoia.

Using "what would they do if we were refugees" is also a weak rebuttal. It's not a matter of seeing if you would get something in return, it's how you treat the reality and facts of the existing issue now.

Pretend the US is in a state of mass terrorism and war, and you were a refugee (a true refugee, obviously not a terrorist- in fact, you are literally fleeing the same terrorist groups that the country you are fleeing to for safety fears), going through unimaginable hardship (see the link I posted), finally fleeing your country after years, only to be greeted with implied/real threats such as "just know that we are an open carry state" because everyone around you thinks that you ARE a terrorist, the very group of people who you fear for your life.

There's no easy answer, I'm sure, and you're of course allowed your own opinions. But many of your ways of thinking and reasoning behind your opinions are immoral and weak.

ETA: I won't continue the argument on the forum, but I hope there's at least a bit of compassion in you and you can re-think the significance (or lack thereof) of some of your examples backing your reasoning.

Thank you, and yes, terrorists hiding with in the refugees does worry me, and if we could for sure screen them out (I know we can't) I wouldnt have an issue with refugees coming here.

My concern is not their ethnicity, or their country of origin, my concern is that terrorists might use this to further infiltrate our country.

But we all can go back and forth about this all day, I have said what I believe, and I will not change my mind, so there is no reason to keep beating the dead horse.

Alternately, we could just trap her in a room full of breastfeeding middle eastern women and watch her descend into full blown madness...

ETA: I wasn't going to say anything else but I'm about to explode from anger over this issue. HALF of the twelve million that have fled Syria are CHILDREN. Why is this important? Well, if the United States doesn't allow Syrian refugees, we are doing exactly what ISIS wants; these children will go back to their war-filled country, and they will hate the West BECAUSE the West was unwelcoming towards these refugees, who are INNOCENT. And now, with their burning hatred of the west, they will have no choice but to turn to fundamentalist values and survive with ISIS, or definitely die. By turning away refugees, you are creating more ISIS members and more hatred for the west. You are doing what ISIS wants.

To stop terror attacks in general, particularly in the US, the United states needs to take care of people with a military background that come back from war, not **** entire countries over, and take care of people with mental illnesses problem. I'll focus on problem number two, as that's where the Daesh Fundamentalist groups often come from; The US has a tendency to poke its nose and screw other countries up, whether by imperialism/colonization in the past or by intervening in its government. If we want to stop terror groups, we need stop destroying other countries. The Syrian Refugees have done nothing.

So if you don't want to keep refugees for the sake of being a normal, compassionate human being, do it so less terror groups arise because of others' ignorance.

Also, most terrorists are born in the country they are going to terrorize, so you are much more likely to be attacked by an American than a Syrian. Not allowing Syrian refugees in helps no one and hurts everyone.

We are all worried about terrorists being filtered in through refugees. Germany is worried, France is worried, Sweden is worried, Turkey is worried. The world is worried. And still, we as humans, are accepting other humans into our countries as refugees, because these humans need help. These people like you and me, these people who have families, children, parents, grandparents, people who built a home for themselves - and a life, feel so threated in their home that they have no other choice. These people who choose a dangerous journey over death.
It is so easy telling people to keep out, and stay away - telling them not expect a warm welcome, when your on the computer, in your safe home, on your warm sofa thousands of miles out of harms way.
You (general you) need to stop penalizing those who truely need help for the faults of others.
You're right - it IS a problem that needs to be considered, and there NEEDS to be a solution to filter refugees coming into the USA - and also all other countries. Leaving these people hanging is not an option though.

However, if the USA says no to refugees, if you say no to refugees, ISIS has won. ISIS won, when the soccer game between Germany and the Netherlands was cancelled this week, because of bomb threats. ISIS won yesterday, when we were at the movies an some guy was acting odd and looking behind displays and people started leaving and alarming security. ISIS won, when someone forgot their suitcase and the trainstation on lockdown for almost 12 hours. ISIS won, when my neighbor cancelled his flight because he was scared of it being shot down. They won, because you are scared.
I refuse to let them win. I refuse to not help people in need because something could happen. I refuse to say no to refugees, because then ISIS wins.

Everyone else has responded pretty thoroughly, but I'd like to point out that just because you're dating a Hispanic man doesn't mean you're not racist. In fact this is such a common thing there's even a cliche phrase to accompany it: "I'm not a racist, I have black friends!"

Racism is so deeply ingrained in our culture, plus there are tons of races - you don't have to be bigoted against all other races to still be a racist. When you pre-judge someone based on their race, you are a racist, period.

Not that I am discrediting any previous posts or arguing the semantics of race or racism, but everyone's main man Bill also makes a pretty good point about just how important it is to be accepting.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for spelling it out like that. I've been really conflicted over my feelings and you just cleared everything up perfectly. Can I potentially repost snippets of this to my fb?

Sigh. Got the estimate from the mechanic, fixing our old car is gonna cost upwards of $2000, and that's still cheaper than buying another used one... I guess it's a case of 'better the devil you know'. That will also pretty much do in our emergency fund. Why couldn't I have just won the lottery? Oh, yeah, gotta buy a ticket. Sigh...

I want to play with all of them....

You should just get one so I can watch it grow up on Chaz. I miss baby Toast pictures.
I really really do. ;_; I'm mentally super ready, but lifestyle not ready yet. (Though I technically have a few breeds in mind, I'm leaning more and more towards Malinois...) Realistically, in 1~2 years when Lancer has at least titled in NW1 and NW2 and Rara is older, and when I live on my own with a yard.

This litter was from 2013 already, and all 15 of those pups are from the same litter. I can't believe.

My back hurts horribly for the first time in a few weeks. We're supposed to be leaving to go camping soon and I should be packing and getting the animals ready and instead of lying in bed with an icepack hoping it will stop.

I don't think I can do the 2 hour drive to the campsite. I sure as hell won't be able to sit in a camp chair. Per the advise of my dad (who is a pharmacist), I took ONE dose of advil hoping it would at least take the edge off. May as well have been sugar pills.

I'm so upset and frustrated right now. This is affecting how I'm living my life and I can't do a **** thing about it. This is so dumb.
