Hello!

As you know, I am planning to get a koolie in the future! However, if I am unable to find one I want right away, I will wait to find "the one".

My SO will be getting an FCR puppy. He will probably follow his dad and get one from Wyndham Retrievers when his dad does. But I still would like to research breeders anyway for the heck of it.

The main purpose of the dog would be for the SO and he wants it to be a bird dog when they go hunting- not competition.

I would like to possibly compete with his dog as well. I would like to possibly do agility and dock diving with his dog.

So do any of you know of good breeders for me to check into? (either posting here or PM'ing me).

Anyone have experience or know of people with experience of Wyndham Retrievers?

or anyone want to just spend a couple minutes looking and finding reputable breeders, preferably in the Midwest?

Thanks!

There are quite a few good breeders in the northern midwest. Do you have a general timeline?

Mandypug might have some info for you!
Lol, Shai is more qualified i think! My fav breeders for FCRs aren't even in 'murica for the most part lol.

They're fun dogs. K-man left a lasting mark on my heart and my life. He was probably the most versatile and titled dog i've ever known!

We still have quite a while. Probably 2-3 years or so, so plenty of time for me to research. They had siblings, and the sister passed away over 4 years ago before we were in a relationship and Tucker is still around! He is almost 14 years old, sometime this summer.

Originally they were planning on getting 1-2 when Tucker was younger so he could teach them how to hunt.

But Tucker is unable to hunt anymore, and they don't think he could handle a puppy running around. So it sounds like they will be waiting until he passes.

I likely won't have any say of who the breeder is, especially if he can get a puppy when his dad gets one because then they will likely get two from the same litter. But if his dad gets one before we would be ready for a puppy (like not owning a house yet) then I would have more say I think.

But ultimately, this will be his dog and he wants a bird hunting dog/companion. So that is first priority. I just think it might be fun to do dock diving and possibly agility with his dog.

And it's fun to look at different breeders and what type of dogs they have.

There are some really nice breeders out by Mandy but yeah it depends whether you want to leave the country and deal with the border stuff plus travel a couple thousand miles :). Could be worth it.

I don't personally know any Wyndham/ian dogs. I am not in his immediate area and I don't think he comes to specialities and such events, as I don't think he's a member of the FCRSA.

Right in Minnesota you have Shannara, Evensong, and Yahtaris. Fall Flight is in Wisconsin, Kistryl is in Illinois, Destiny in Indiana. I think Pinnacle is in Iowa. Knightcastle is across the border in Ontario (lots of breeders in Ontario actually).

Thank you! I will be checking out those breeders!

I know you are very much into the breed, and I do not know much about them, but I get a feeling they aren't really all that different from each other, so there doesn't seem to be a need to really stress about who the breeder is correct? As in they don't seem to have drastically different lines or body structure and possibly temperament in breeders from the US, please correct me if I am wrong and discuss this in further detail of what to look for if this is not the case!

Thanks again!

Reading over this again, it sounds like it could maybe get taken the wrong way. But I mean like in BCs for example, there is a big divide in what lines to get there doesn't seem to be that with this breed? And I haven't seen or heard of any with behavioral/fear/nervy issues, they all seem to have the typical loving life attitude, with each of their own unique personalities, but not much of anything to be concerned and look out for to avoid in breeders?

I would imagine there would be some difference in breeders who just do conformation vs those who focus on hunting with their dogs?

One thing to keep in mind about international breeders, its currently getting harder to import dogs to the US. Especially pre-vaccine puppies. Who knows where we'll be in a couple years, but that's the way the trend is heading.
