Personally I don't think a child that young should be shooting an Uzi.
That said I'm all for gun ownership and I own quite a few between handguns, shotguns, AR, rifles, etc. I enjoy going out to the shooting range and I LOVE skeet shooting. My husband also hunts and eventually I want to go hunting with him. My husband also has his conceal carry permit. We are both very serious about gun safety though and I don't see any problem with us owning guns. I do not open carry at all and have no desire to really do so. Still undecided if I plan to get my conceal permit or not. I would like to get a lot more experience with my hand guns before I make that decision. That's just my 2 cents though.
I do think it's very unfortunate what happened and I feel bad for the little girl though.

Certified by who? Who verifies certification? As I said many instructors are NRA certified. BUT many have no more qualification than being an air force cook for 4 years and have a buddy that owns a range. Granted with high end instruction you're going to have people with real training qualifications, people like myself with military occupational specialties (MOS) for training. I have the Marine Corps MOS 8531, Primary/Combat Marksmanship Instructor. I have done everything from coaching individuals, to overseeing a block of coaches to running the entire range while qualifying two battalions for deployment. This involved both shooting from fixed positions at known distances and combat drills that involve movement while shooting. IME MANY "instructors" are not instructors at all. Someone may have trained them formally on how to shoot but no one ever taught them how to teach. Most of those guys teach nonsense, based on things they've seen or read, without actually understanding the purpose behind it. Now not all of those guys are morons, some actually know what they are doing. But as far as I can tell, few if any states have laws requiring any credentials. Neither does the Fed nor insurance companies.
