^before bringing home Lodin, this is what I would have said.

See I just picked Feist 90% based on I liked how she looked. (10% she was adorable and wouldn't stop following me around). Haha, bad me. :p

Lately I've been having massive cravings for Black Tri. I also like lots of white and nice deep tan or brindle points.

After that I like patterns over solids. But OMG the Black Tri want can not be contained!

Plain jane types. I never really liked a lot of fancy colours or markings but I don't mind a solid coloured dog having a nearly all white face.

In English Shepherds I love a light or medium shaded sable, dark clear sables (never used to before Quinn...) and tris. I like classic Irish markings.
BCs, I highly prefer tris and black bis. Either traditional Irish markings, or a big white snip, or a split face with eye liner. With the exception of Feist I'm not generally drawn to a lot of freckling.
GSDs, my dream is to have another solid black! I also love bis or dark sables.

In general, I like dark dogs (black or sable), either solid or some white Irish markings. I like some black and tans. I like masks. I much prefer dark pigmentation.

I don't usually prefer merles, but I do like a dark merle with interesting markings (solid split face, solid leg, etc) without much white.

Hmmm I like clear sable herders with nice black eyeliner
Quinn says thank you! Haha!

A lot of it depends on the breed. For GSDs, a dark daaaaark sable is my favorite, followed by solid black, and after that a deep, rich red and black.

In Koolies, solid black and black and white are my favorites. I like blue merle too, especially one like Traveler; a very uniform, non-"busy" merle.

Border Collies, I like black and white, but either high black or high white. Traditional is nice too, but not my favorite.

Black will usually win out over any other color, and I'm not a huge fan of light colors. Finn is an exception, of course, I think he's gorgeous ;)

I really really love tricolored dogs. Finn comes to mind.

But this dog I just looovee the looks of:

Red merle... Merlin comes to mind <3

Here's a random google dog I love:

I used to be obsessed with blue merle, now not as much anymore, BUT a certain "type" of blue merle I really find appealing. Such as:

I really like this, too (is this considered tri-color?? Or??):

And with Border Terriers, I like the blues the best.

It's pretty obvious what color I prefer for Amstaffs or Bully breed dogs.. but, red/white is my favorite. Barrett is considered fawn/white so that's up there. I'm a sucker for a pretty tri color because of Piper.

Basically, for me to really like a dog, and for it to live here, it has to have a lot of white (aka "flashy"). I was the same way with my horses, started with a paint pony and pretty much had bays with 4 white socks and a blaze after that.

I really like bi-color German Shepherd Dogs

Although I wouldn't say no to a richly colored, dark blanketed black/tan, either

And, like any other GSD person, I'm a sucker for the black and very dark sables

My favorite used to be black/tan saddle backs and white GSDs, so go figure LOL I like that Trent has such a dark face, even if I'm meh about his pattern/color overall. But he's a cool dude so I keep him around ;) I'm very much NOT a fan of solid colored GSDs, to the point where I will likely turn down one if I were looking for a puppy and that was the best option available at the time.

That said, I actually really like solid dogs of other breeds, and solid black is my favorite color on an APBT. I also really like black tris, and those are my favorite colors/pattern on many breeds (such as Australian Shepherds and Border Collies). Black/white Aussies and BCs are great, too. Feist, Lodin, Finn, Cohen, and Eve are my ideas when it comes to BC coloring and I am head over heels for Journey, and I think she's the dog that sparked my renewed love for black tri Aussies.

For English Shepherds it's clear sable all the way. Light or dark, really, but Quinn's coloring and pattern and coat length will forever be my favorite. There was also a really light clear sable ES puppy that was born last summer that I obsessed over (Sit Stay can confirm this LOL).

Favourite colours are black/blue/grey/white dogs... here are some photos of the markings I like!

I like ticking.

I believe this is called a "tweed merle".

I'm not sure what you'd call this colour, but I LOVE the appearance of Blue Bay Shepherds (pictured below)

Brindle merles are pretty trippy.

I think the dog at the bottom of the photo is an "agouti merle". I really like the colouring of the dog at the top, but I'm not sure what that's called.

No pictures as I am using an iPad and posting pictures on it is frustrating, but as far as colour preference, it is pretty breed dependent for me. But in general I have grown to love really contrasty dogs with nice dark pigment. Shaded sable is one of my favorites, tri colour, tan with a black mask, etc.

Of my favourite breeds...

Aussies: Black tri and black bi, with classic white markings but not too much. Journey markings area favourite... surprise, surprise haha. I also love a nice dark black tri or bi with minimal white. Especially on the face. And I am a fan of a nice dark red tri, as long as the eyes are not too light. Blue Merle bi is nice too, with brown eyes. I love many red merles as well, but am super picky about them. But yeah, all in all, I am most attracted to black tri nowadays. And always dark eyes.

Koolies: This has changed a lot, but I really love black bis and tris or blk/tan or solid black. A dark red bi is super pretty also, or solid red with minimal or no white. I love merles too, but am picky about the pattern. I love all of the Merle forum Koolies.

Tollers: No real preference anymore. I am more picky about structure looks wise than colour. But lately I have been loving the black pigmented ones and kind of hope if I ever get another that she will have dark pigment (that stays dark and doesn't fade). And again with Tollers, I don't like super light eyes.

Belgians: I love the look of grey Tervs. But otherwise, no real preference. If I ever opt to get a Belgian, it'll be of the hairy variety, but I have to say that as far as Malinois go, I love Onyx's colour. Gorgeous.

And because I own the breed, for Dobermans, I don't actually have a preference anymore. I love the classic look of black/rust but also think nice dark reds are beautiful as well... again, as long as the eyes are dark haha. Fawn is pretty too, but I would not own one. I have enough skin problems with my normal colored dobes unfortunately.

And since eyes keep coming up, I am not a fan of light eyes in any dog anymore. They are pretty, but I just prefer a deep, warm looking darker eye. I think eyes are my biggest source for pickyness when it comes to a dog's look. Even Ripley's eyes are verging on too light for me, as pretty as they are.

As many have said, it really just depends on the breed. And like others, I'm not generally a huge fan of merle...and yet I think Traveler and Bean are both gorgeous and that their merleing fits them perfectly.

I do strongly prefer black pigmenting. Probably just what I'm used to.

Equinox -- I really feel silly now but I've always sort of wondered idly why black & tan GSDs were called that...assumed they were just blanket backs with even more black since they generally didn't have the eyebrow markings like black and tans in other breeds... never really thought any more of it until now and hadn't even bothered to try to look it up. But considering Lodin doesn't have eyebrow brown (at least, not yet), I'm now assuming they really are B&T like Dobes, etc., but their strong black masks hide their brown facial markings? True/False?

Quinn says thank you! Haha!
I have so much love for Quinn, haha

Journey is definitely one of my favorite dogs ever looks-wise. She's stunning!

And if we're talking about merles we covet... Steve. Definitely. I love his kind of merle.

My biggest thing is that I like to have some markings... I don't care for solid dogs, aesthetically. I also prefer color over/around the eyes.

When I got Rowan, I really liked liver Brittanys, but I'm 100% sold on orange now. I love freckles on the legs & face, but don't like orange roan at all. I like a nice clear pattern.

I think that liver roan is beautiful, but it also doesn't look like a Brittany to me.

I'm orange piebald biased, I guess :)

In Cardigans, I think my favorite is brindle, although honestly I like all of the colors that they come in. I especially like red brindles over brown or black brindles.

In Aussies, I like bicolors. Black, red, blue or red merle, doesn't matter, all bicolors! I *love* Cara's color and markings, although I really like minimal white, too. I strongly prefer dark reds and merles - lots of black on blue merles and rich color on reds and red merles. Sometimes the reds seem washed out and I don't care for it. This dog is gorgeous:

Solid black and bicolor GSDs used to be my preference but I'm leaning toward dark black/tan or black/red now. This is probably my ideal color:

I'm not super into BCs, but I'm a huge sucker for ee red. I've had a crush on Cobain for years and years.

I like shaded sable and clear sable in English Shepherds, although Hudson has made me like black and white, too :)

In K/Coolies I like both black and red in bicolor, tricolor, and with tan points. I actually like solid red too, one of the few breeds I like a solid in. (Zip Tie is basically perfection though.)

Generally I like light eyes, yellow/amber/light brown, over dark brown. I like blue eyes too. My overall favorite (outside Brittanys) tends to be liver/red/chocolate/brown (depending on breed, lol): Irish marked, piebald, tricolor, red & tan, whatever. Love it. Funny because before I got Rowan, I STRONGLY preferred black pigment, but now I want all the red dogs!

True! They are the same sort of black/pointed tan as Doberman Pinschers and Rottweilers, but with a more extensive mask that hides their eyebrow markings and very often, the tan that would be on the chest as well.

And if we're talking about merles we covet... Steve. Definitely. I love his kind of merle.
Oh man. I don't really care for merle, but give me a dog that looks like Steve any day of the week, and I'll die happy. And BEAN. Bean is the exception to my meh feelings about merle. Bean is my perfect sort of merle and I want.

And Upendi&Mina's puppy Snitch's mask is sooo pretty.

Aw, thank you! Not that I can take credit for her looks haha.

It is funny how dogs can change you. Pre-Journey I was ALL about red and orange dogs, light eyes, merles, flesh coloured pigment etc. It wasn't until I had her for a little while that my preferences turned right around. I never thought that black would become my favourite, and yet somehow it has.

I like anything flashy, a lot of chrome, crazy merling, brindle, spotty. I also really like anything liver/brown/red. Black isn't my favorite, but I'm not too picky on color overall.
I do love a red/'chocolate' tri. Or red/tan.
Wicked cute.

Gorgeous.

I love a light brindle, especially on a nondescript mix. Cur type or prick eared mix. (I love Cricket here on Chaz!)

I don't really care for predominantly white dogs with...sporadic small ticking? It has to be even and preferably dark.
Don't care for this

Thank you Paviche! :) Snitch's breeder and I joke that one of the best things Cara could have offered the gene pool was pretty pigment.

In aussies, I really love the reds, but I'm picky about them. I want dark rich pigment and find that some of them look too washed out for my tastes. Cara is pretty much my ideal in terms of red pigment.

And I prefer my merle's with large patches, but I'm think Snitch is pretty **** cute anyways. ;) It's also fascinating to see how his merling has changed.
