I really want to confirm whether Fable has coyote in her or not. A genotype would be the test she'd need, right?
Does anyone have any experience on where I can have this done and how much it might cost?

If I were in your position, I'd PM StillAndSilent and ask :) She had a test run on Gambit... I think through her vet? Though I'm not sure exactly.

Thanks, guys. I did talk to her and we went back and forth for a bit, but she's going through a lot right now, so I don't expect an answer soon.
I really want to know for sure, but if Fable does come back positive when I get the test done, I'm going to keep it quiet with neighbors and all. Coyotes and coydogs are popular hunting game out here. >.<

Well, you could always just give me to her for safekeeping :D

I have no idea if there is such a law, or something of the sort, but you might want to make sure it's not against any rules to own a coyote/part coyote. Maybe that's a silly thing to think about, but if I were in your shoes I would just pursue it a little to make certain before you test and it comes back she is part coyote. Just something that came to mind. :)

you can try local universities. If anyone is doing genetic research using coyotes they will be able to do it easily if not cheaply.

LOL, Grace. You'd send her back in about an hour. :p
Dekka, that's an idea. I'll check into that.

Jen, thanks for posting that, I never thought to consider it. I did some poking around and while it is illegal to own wildlife here (like a coyote), hybrids are not considered wildlife and there are no laws about them I could find.

I also want to clarify my position on Fable. I don't think hybrids are "cool" to own or some kind of privilege. Wolf hybrids are beautiful, but I would never purchase one. I don't want Fable to be part coyote. It's a concern I have, not a desire. I'll be happiest if I find out she's just a batshit crazy GSD mix.
(I had to post that disclaimer because I know there are people who would think I just want to call Fable a coydog because it's "unique" or some similar mindset.)

I'm pretty sure Backup really is part lemur so it's cool.

Offer still stands! She and Trent can just wear each other out.
Well, Fable does like boydogs. <3
Just make sure to keep her away from tin foil, any kind of powder packet (she has a jello and kool aid mix fetish), paper towels and toilet paper ("yummy," she says), and she also belongs on Hoarding: Buried Alive. She has the weirdest assortment of junk in her crate she tries to add to every day. If you hold her collar or hold her in any way, she'll scream bloody murder.
She not only gets into the trash, I've had to rescue her from being stuck in the can, lmao.
She's also a snarky bitch if another animal gets near her while she's eating.
Have fun with her.:rofl1:

I think he is too. :p The lemur/Backup comparison photos you post just kill me. :D

Late to the party, as always. Gambits test was done through the state fish and wildlife agency. His was free, but the man who did it was doing a study on hybrids, which helped. I made very sure that neither his name or mine was published anywhere,. It is legal to own a coydog where I live (or more accurately not illegal) but you never know what the future holds.

I would start with fish and wildlife
