Tragic. Can't stop the tears. The kids are at peace now but I was thinking more about the grieving parents.

I can't stop thinking about all of these poor, innocent people whose lives ended tragically short. It's just not fair. I can't come up with the right words to reply to this thread... I've read all of the information about each of the victims, and I've seen all of their pictures. Victoria Soto was my age, and she is SUCH a hero. This part hit me really hard:

He said her family and
beloved black Labrador, Roxie, are inconsolable.

“Her mom just told me the dog is walking in circles. It’s sad,” Wiltsie said. “There’s so many unanswered questions. The grieving process is going to take time.”

Seems as though the school will be closed forever. I somewhat figured that would be the best route -- no child or adult would want to go back in there after what they've been through.
Yes, I agree.

As a parent I wouldn't even know how to explain to a 6 yr old what happened to their friends & WHY in a way they could understand when I don't even understand it myself.

I am the first to say that Iam not a "kid person" but I do believe hay are innosent & when something like this is done to a child it fills me with such depression & saddness ... I try not to think about it.

I can only begin to imagine what this father must feel like. But this man is my new hero. A story I am certain will not make the "usual" media outlets.

The light will always push away the dark.
Ok.... I'm in tears again, so many are judging his family.... Sometimes you can do everything "right" and it won't matter... Some times a person just... Just isn't right? You know?

I can't imagine the loss of my child, but I also can't imagine knowing my child was responsible for such a monstrous thing....

I see so many people picking apart the shooter's mother and blaming her for all of this. I even saw people saying she didn't deserve to be listed among the other victims because it was her fault for raising him bad.

It's just... I don't get it. Not at all.

The ONLY question I have is IF his mother was filling him with paranoia...but I have no clue if that is actually the case or not. Then again, I have a close friend who used to be a principal at a small school and they discovered a student's plan to kill her. He had some issues and took everything literally...and his mom HATED my friend (I think CPS was called several times for the student showing up in no shoes, etc). From what was gathered, the mom like to rant and rave about my friend, about the problems she was causing etc and this poor young boy thought he had to kill her basically to stop her and protect others. I do think its irresponsible of a parent or adult working with children to feed paranoia and fear....BUT, big BUT, I do NOT know that this was the case here at all.

I am not happy with all the sensationalism of his past. I saw an article today "Babysitter was warned to NEVER turn his back on Adam" Ok, yeah, a LOT of parents would warn this, and mean it not because of them fearing for the babysitter but because children get in trouble in an instant!

I dont like they keep harping on his asperger's (or maybe having aspergers) like this is something to expect if one has it. Or others have said oh his mom pulled him from school because of his issues that she ignored etc. There is so much we will NEVER know and hindsight of course is 20/20

The whole thing is just tragic...

This. It's ridiculous and insulting to me. I only caught a few minutes last night on the news, but they were talking about people with autism spectrum disorder (calling it aspergers though) saying how it's harder for them to have empathy, which depending on the degree of the disorder is patently not true. It can be if you're low functioning, but to paint everyone with it with the same brush is really insulting.

I've actually read several articles that point out that it is rare for individuals with aspergers to become violent. I know what you mean though, it's the same thing with bi-polar. There was an insident where a man who was bi-polar stabbed someone at a school board meeting and the reporter stated that the man "suffered from bi-polar disorder and was apparently having a bad day." Really?

I had watched the footage of him speaking, and it was so clear that he was in immense shock. I was appalled when I heard a reporter ask why he wasn't reacting like the other parents... everyone has their own way of grieving, and it'd be incredibly difficult not to be shocked over such a horrible loss. I think the media overstepped the line there.

I agree with the last part as well, although I am far from being a parent myself. A five year old girl asked me to sit with her on the bus today, so we spent the whole time talking about Christmas and how her mom has Santa on in her contacts on her phone. It's so horrible to even think about it, especially when you think about the young children you know and how they'd have reacted to such a tragedy.

Another matter that I don't agree with, is all the apparent talk of gun laws. My media studies had a discussion on that in particular, where most people agreed guns should be banned. However, I honestly feel that the government should be considering spending time working out a mental health care plan of some sort and making those facilities available to everyone who needs it, no matter what their finances are. It's just tragic that the murderer didn't get the help he needed before he took the lives of so many innocent, young children.

Also, every single one of the teachers were heroes that day... to be able to do what they did and keep all their students calm isn't something just anybody could accomplish.

Same here. Over the weekend a high school student made a FB post threatening violence. The high school had heightened security today (although I think that student had already been contacted by police)

I've been hearing Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest at the funeral...ugh. I hope it's just internet fodder but if not...that is just absolutely beyond belief.

The church in Newtown was evacuated yesterday after someone called and threatened to kill people in the church.

That makes almost as sick as the actual shooting...it's absolutely disgusting to me.

How horrible of a thing to say ... Everyone has their own way of grieving for a lot loved one & a child is ... I can't imagine how hard it is.

My moms school is in San Antonio TX ... It turned out to be a hoax, someone playing their idea of a sick joke. She is retired but sometimes she subs ... I'm thankful she didn't go in today, now I will worry when she does :(.

I've heard the same. There is a group and an "event" on FB to make a human shield if they do end up protesting the funerals. They are such pieces of trash.
