Payton and Auggie are so cute. I love to see them live in action! Those paw pods are intriguing. Might look into those!

Ok both of these skills are very much still in process, but I have a growing series of video for both, so figured I'd add them here. I also have them posted on fb and they've generated some great discussions!

Aeri - freeshaping "challenge" (trying to clean up my shaping technique as I've slipped into a lot of luring with her since she works differently than any of the others), goal is two paws on the flower pot.

Session 1: http://youtu.be/oudlyjk8r-E

Session 2: http://youtu.be/HcK9wo84UWo

Session 3: http://youtu.be/pHlytLOcgsY

All unedited, no training between sessions.

Snipe - shaping handstand skills, goal is a full handstand but for these videos I was working on just two rear feet targeting the platform.

Session 2: http://youtu.be/G4QdcBVTqfo

Session 3: http://youtu.be/wEinG-Hc0o8

Again, unedited and no training in between.
I saw some of these on FB, I'm going to go through in order though and watch. :)

I also have been bad with doing a lot of luring and need to get better at freeshaping.

I'm intensely curious about those paw pods. What exactly are they for? They look really fun!!
The ones I own are actually made for people, but they are the same specs as the FitPaws stuff - only I got them cheaper off Amazon, haha. I bought them for body awareness stuff, to help Payton learn to stack, and just to give Auggie something else to do 'cause why not?
I'm actually kind of surprised that Auggie is having a harder time with it than Payton. But Payton also caught on to the perch faster than Auggie. I think Auggie has little impulse control, not much on stimulus control, and... well, I thought I had him better when it came to his brain simply falling out around treats but... yeah. No. Or at least not right now when we are cooped up inside so much. This is why I deliver my treats to Auggie differently than to Payton too - Auggie is trying to bite my fingers off. sigh.

It's interesting to watch both dogs learn. I guess I just figured Auggie would learn better since he's six but Payton is surprising me. However they are both similar in that sometimes they'll do the EXACT thing I'm asking for three or four times in a row, get clicked and rewarded for it, and then they start trying different things altogether LOL. I don't get it. Weird dogs.

I'm also a past lure-er and I'm trying to quit, LOL. The video I linked earlier in the thread shows the person luring but I'm trying not to do that. I actually tried it last session, just to see if I could do it and then fade the lure really quickly, but Payton was like "uhhh what are you doing??" Besides teaching the sit and down when he first came home, I haven't lured anything. He seriously had no clue how to deal with it hahaha. It was kind of funny.

Here is the Frodo working on our retrieve to hand :)

He still wants to try and give me his paw a lot (usually he has pretty good stimulus control, but whatever, it's gradually fading) though he is definitely understanding now that he must put the ball in his mouth and pick it up, rolling it across the floor is not acceptable!

I also think he has lost weight since going back on full raw.

LOL I just did another session with Snipe to try and get rid of the inadvertant food lure - it was HILARIOUS. Video uploading now...

Mu does that too!! I'm glad she's not the only one. I really want some of those pod things now.....dang it. Not luring is HARD. I had to make myself quit because Mu was getting so locked into my physical cues. On the plus side, the free shaped behaviors we have now are really solid compared to her lured ones.

Oh man, I want Snipe! <3

Ok new vids for my fellow training nerds:

Aeri's 4th session. Hit a plateau which seems fairly common for her. Still working through how I want to overcome it in our next session.
http://youtu.be/L_XhjhfA-s8

Kestrel's second session with targeting both of his front feet on an object, first time with a flower pot. Really shows the difference between he and Aeri and clarifies why I find how Aeri learns so different from my usual.
http://youtu.be/qQdESX9vE4c

And Snipe. Doing her Snipe thing. ;)

Beanie, so the ones for humans work fine? I want to get some of those balance balls and things because I can get them for humans through my work whole sale but wasn't sure if the ones for dogs were a ton thicker.

Also, they are doing great! I love Payton soo much!

PW, Frodo is so cute. And Travelers got that default foot target too. But he has to flex his nails when he gets frustrated it isn't working. Want to kill him

Here is where we are now! I'm not moving ahead at all with the hand stand until I build up more muscle memory.

So I'm working on him offering his back leg(s) up away from any wall or surface. Then working on going up the board and holding it. Hoping to get that cleaner soon, I want a faster both feet on it. And working on going backwards up the stairs too.

Parts of Handstand: Back Leg, Stairs, Board

I sooo need something that isn't my webcam to record though.

Linds, I have humans ones I use and they are fine even with Kim (47lb) and Cheeseface (54ish lb). That said, while I use my discs for all the dogs, only Web can really use the big ball due to his size...the girls couldn't possibly stand in a naturally position on one because of their size...I think I need to get them a peanut or egg. Trav is somewhere between my two extremes in size so maybe a ball would work but I'd try to test someone's first.

Now if you can get human peanuts or eggs on wholesale, that's incredibly awesome...

What I did was pull up the specs at Clean Run, then search on Amazon for the same thing and compared everything as far as the specs went. Those were an exact match for size. I don't imagine the ones for dogs would be thicker or stronger since humans weigh quite a bit more than dogs; I think the FitPaws company probably just makes their stuff out of the same stuff as their human products, honestly!

I wanted a few other things but wasn't finding stuff that matched exactly, so I decided to just get these first and see how it went. Things like the FitPaws wobble boards and a few others have either a small or large size, and I couldn't find human ones that matched the large sizes, and I think the smalls might be too small for my guys. They aren't BIG dogs, obviously, but they're not exactly small dogs either. Payton is really long. I was worried the small ones for people wouldn't be big enough for him, so I passed on them. I will probably explore it again later, I really want to get a wobble board to do some foundation stuff on!

Currently I'm working on a "sit pretty" for Eve, but we're having so much trouble because her hind end is narrow and she tips over! Any suggestions?

I'm still perfecting it but when I started I let him use my hand/leg for balance until he figured out how to hold himself up better and put less and less pressure on me. It took a little while though, he kept just rolling onto his back when I first started :rofl1:

But after he started being able to hold himself up like that for half a second alone I just kept doing that until he started holding it longer and longer himself.

Thanks Shai and Beanie!! I wasn't sure if it was thicker because of nails but since I made that emery board Traveler's nails are good I don't think I have to worry that much.

It takes a while to build up their core muscles. Boone didn't take long, but Tempie was terrible! I started with her back up against the couch to help her balance. And then I just had to keep working on it every day until she got strong enough to do it without help. Now she's a champ. ;)

I figured it had a lot to do with core muscles, I can't hold a yoga pose and I shouldn't expect my dog to either! I'll try helping her out more, thanks guys!

Traveler hated his crate but I've been working on teaching him to open the door and go in when asked no matter were we were and the level of excitement.

He's been doing really good for awhile but I just got a short video of it tonight.

Go To Crate

He'll do it even at the highest level of excitement (playing with dogs, someone coming home etc.)

I am loving all these videos! Also I am in love with Quinn, she really reminds me of Lily even though she's a different breed.

Working on training me out of luring and getting my timing more crisp on the click. Also working really hard to be consistent and concise on cue words. I've gotten pretty lazy and sloppy over the past year. I'm reading SG's Shaping Success right now. The BC I grew up with so would have been a handful like her Buzz if he'd been involved in sport, he was nuts... sure miss my Buddy.

Lily
- I've gone back to basics. Working on straighter postitioning in her sit and down (well I use sitz and platz, but whatevs), also trying to make sure each cue means what I want it to mean and she's not doing the opposite. Trying to keep from her anticipating too. I know a lot of this is my bad from sloppy training, but trying to change that! Using the clicker consistently is really helping.
- Also doing some work with her attention heel (fuss) using the clicker. I'm getting MUCH better results using the clicker. She's still forging a little bit, but I'm getting very crisp bouncy heeling from her. She is a lot of fun to do this with.
- Working on her front/heir a bit. She tends to back up when I get very close to her, which is frustrating both of us. She also tends to sit very crooked. I know its just because I didn't know as much as I know now when I started training her... I also didn't have a clear plan outlined either. Meh, she's my first dog what can I say!
- Leave it/focus games!
- We had our first semi-private clicker class last Friday. A friend whom I helped find a dog is also taking it with her new BC from the shelter. It was really fun. We did some work with a low box, just getting the dog to get on it and stay there. Lily caught on to that scary fast with shaping and soon we were working on her staying in sitz on it while I moved all around. Then we introduced targeting, that first session was kinda meh. I need to get my own targeting stick so we can work on that between classes.

Scout
- Lots of focus/leave it work. This seems to be a big relaxer for her and I'm specifically working on her being spatially comfortable with me. Space and body language are big concerns for my pretty girl because of her baggage.

- working on quicker sitz and trying to shape the platz. The latter has been eternally frustrating and is going slow. I'm basically putting as little pressure on her as possible. On the fourth or was it fifth session of it I was crouched down and she suddenly splatted into a platz. I jackpotted her and then ended the session on that positive note. It hasn't been replicated since, but I have hope now! I'm not giving a command yet, just trying to lure/shape the behavior. I feel like the luring isn't working and would like to get away from it.

- Sort of working on her front position. Oddly she is doing much better at it than Lily is. Haven't given it a cue, just working on getting her comfortable being closer to me, rather than being like 5 feet back from me.

Spaz
- Working on luring/shaping sit, down, and heel position. He has a very solid sit, wait, and load up. I feel like we are both frustrated with the lured down though and I would like to move away from that. Ideas/advice?

Kudos to whomever reads through all this, sorry for the novel!:)

Traveler did this in heel and I for a little while just c/t when I would lean in at all and he kept his position. He picked it up fast and it really really helped.

Isn't it funny how they can be? Traveler was like that in heel and front. "You want me THAT close to you? Ewwww"

I found throwing the treat between my legs really really helped him get over it fast and straightened out the front nicely
