So I have to do something Friday I don't like to do very much.... I have to go to a 'dog and pony show' fundraising event for this charity we donate our time too. You know, everbody all dressed up and kissing ass....

Anyway, the tickets say "cocktail" attire. What, exactly, is that for a man? LOL Help a dumb redneck please? :)

Oh yeah, Tanya is going too. She is going to be smoking hot in her little black dress. :) I have to try and not make her look bad. Ya know? LOL

Lol guys have it easy. There's like casual, sports/business casual, fancy, and super fancy.

Cocktail falls under fancy. You don't need a full suit, but you need a jacket/blazer. Generally, "cocktail attire" is more "fun" to me than business attire. Brightly colored shirt/tie, etc. Shiny shoes.

If you want to avoid the tie/hangman's noose, go for a dress shirt with a bit of panache, open at the neck, maybe something like this:

Even a conventional type collar, worn open, but on a shirt with French cuffs and a NICE pair of cuff links will not only do the job, you'll stand out from the herd -- in a good way.

Definitely a great jacket. You can always take it off later.

Most importantly, though, how does Tanya think you'll look best? ;)

If you dont have a jacket, I'm sure you can get away with just a dress shirt and a tie. My guess is you won't be the only one. It's not like it's a job interview.

Do you have a friend who's a similar size to you that you might be able to borrow a jacket from?

It really isn't that big a deal though. Matt usually wears shirt/tie and nice pants to something with dress code like that. Even when men wear jackets they usually end up getting too hot and ditching the jacket partway through ;)
