yes i was hoping, pending health testing when jaspers older, to breed jasper to ruby, their bloodlines are both very complimentarary and they should be some nice cresties with alot of potential...but he was about 9 months too early. hes only 1 yr and 3 months old!

these pups are all going home on pet contracts especially, considering a dont have results yet for jaspers knees.

the good news is noone in his 6 generations past has knee or elbow issues, and beyond that the few reletivs i do know of are clear too but i only have spotted details after 6 gens back.
Ruby i have 10 generations on and shes got some fantastic lines, shes even got "the king" as her fathers grandfather :)

so yeah...
he was just a little too early lol.

lol renee, thats a good word for him, tennacious is another, completly insane might suit too...i just call him "monkey man!" lol
hes certainly trouble but hes got such a wonderfull temperment and a great deal of potential. i took him to a local group this weekend that do lure coursing for fun, weve gone a few times (including ruby) and they LOVE LOVE LOVE it...

there were 5 in his size group this week and he came in second. seeing him run is an amazing thing, seeing him corner is even more so, he hits at such speed its like he turns in mid air!
we dont get ribbons or anything, tis just for fun and run by a local CKC group.

I'd say the odds are in your favor to have a fantastic litter.

I'll toss my guess out for FOUR puppies, 3 girls and 1 boy :D

I'm guessing 3.

1 will be a nekkid male that will be making it's way to long island. Cresteds are very high on my list... But they are a bit out of my price range too. :(

How exciting! Congratulations!

I'm going to guess 4. I LOVE cresties, and will have one in the future. It's a shame there aren't many breeders in my area or surrounding states.

Good luck, and hopefully all goes well! I am so excited for you!

Forgive me if this sounds accusatory b/c that is very much not my intent. I'm just confused, and am compelled by all things crestie.

Wasn't Ruby a rescue from a high kill shelter? And her first adopter abused her and refused to return her papers?

She is a CKC champ? Drop-earred powderpuffs are only shown in the UK. It's a very serious fault in the AKC ring.

Gosh, I might sound like a douche, but I'm crazy about the breed.

Regardless, I hope she has a flawless whelp. I'll predict my "dream" litter, so 3true hairless girls pink/white/spotted black and whites. One of which (a split-face) will be air-mailed to my door. :D

no offence taken...

ruby was an "off" litter, a friend who in her divorse had to give some of her dogs to her husband, her AKC champ female and a CKC male, both were intact and the judge couldnt do anything to make her now ex neuter/spay despite the female being too old to safely whelp/raise a litter (she was almost 9 if i remmber right were talking 3 yrs ago now lol) she whelped without a problem but at a few weeks refused to feed the pups and the guy tried to sell them too young becuase he "didnt want the hassle" of early weaning them.
ACO were called, they told him its a no no and he said "fine ill wait" a few days late a neighbor heard them squeeking, ACO rescued the bag o pups and took the parent dogs who were both microchipped to the wife, she was called and the pups were returned to her, along with both adults.

bad situation however both parent dogs were sound, humans however can be evil scum who should...well...we wont go there.

i call her a "rescue" because of the situation she came from, and my frined couldnt keep her, shes living in an apt and can only have 2 dogs and was at her max, ruby was the last one of the pups left through no fault of her own (the only puffer), and she was given to me on the premis that i would do SOMETHING special with her...
and special doesnt begin to describe her, she alerts to my seizures, runs a lure course like a whirlwind and is overall a wonderfull little girl.

great dog from a horrible situation over all.

as for the ears, firstly CKC (continental) is not a "great" registry over all, however they do allow PUFFS (nekkids have to have errect ears) to be show drop eared.
while the standard on the AKC website calls for erect ears there are a few drop eared puffs doing VERY well in the ring and its becomming more common on this side of the pond.
ruby is CKC, obviously she cannot be AKC because her father is CKC...and at one point i was certinaly in the CKC is poop category...

when i started looking into conformation, i handled a few akc dogs for a friend and found myself seriously NOT enjoying it, not the show itself but the people.
i thought i was going to give up when another friend invited me to a CKC fun day...
i seriously whent with the idea that ckc was horrible, but that it would be a fun event to take my female chihuahua vixie too (before ruby) because they had a contest "most active licker" and shes addicted.
after spending the day at the event and meeting some beutiful dogs it realy changed my mind a little on the ckc in general, i still dont nessicarily agree with them...but ive seen worse in the akc show ring.

then ruby came along and i decided to try it out with her, and for what its worth did very well. she finnished quickly, it was so much fun we started doing agility but unfortunatly my weight and fitness level couldnt match her and i lost interest, so i got her her cgc and we whent on to get her her TDI and did alot of childrens hospital visits and took part in the reading with dogs program.
she also began alerting to my seizures!

when jasper came along i did a few akc shows and he placed very well, but quite honestly i DONT like confo AKC, ive met too many plain nasty people, judges have been wonderfull, but i personally cant surround myself with the people i was running into at the akc events so i started doing some fun days with jasper too with the local ckc group

not too long ago, about 6 months now we found out the same group that put on the fun day had procured land use at a farm about 35 mins from me to do an "all breed" lure coursing, no ribbons, no titles, just run for fun, and it was something i was interested in doing but couldnt with any of the other local groups (or AKC) because cresties are not officially sight hounds (yeah right! lol) but this was a nice compromise, no ribbons but who cares.

jasper also has his CGC and were currently finnishing up training for his TDI...i swear down stay has almost killed us on both lol...

my goal for this litter in the future was less "show ring" and more "real life" i wanted puppies that looked good dont get me wrong, i think a breed can only be preserved if we keep a standard (though thats changed so many times in all groups that dogs dont look much like they did 50 yrs ago...) but mostly im looking for temperment in this litter, and i want the pups from this litter to go to homes that are going to take the time to properly socilize and hopefully get them working as therapy dogs...

in all honestly i know as far as breeders go id be considered a "back yard breeder" by many because i dont do AKC and i dont realy enjoy conformation...
and because my dogs didnt come from top winning parents (rubies mother was an AKC champ, her father however was ONLY CKC...)
and of course because i "LET" her get hit too early...

but you also cant please everybody, and thats just the way life is...
for what im hoping for from a litter, this pairing SHOULD produce to my goals as a "breeder"

i just wish fate would have given me chance to get jasper the correct health tests first. lol

i hope that answeres any questions...

again some may think of me as a BYB...
and to each their own...

but you can be assured this litter while still in woumb is currently being raised on a high quality food, and will be for as long as i can personally control.
they will be born in my house, highly socilized from day one
they will be staying here untill 10 weeks MINIMUM
they will not go to "just anyone" (im obsessive about reference and background checks)
and will NEVER (if i have any say) end up in a shelter.

i will be following a late/low vac schedual, and they will be microchipped with MY info as primary contact before going to their new homes (just in case)

ruby is being properly spoilt...
jasper was properly counseld on the horrors of beeing a teenage daddy.

Same here Foxy, I almost never post anything about my dog. But I don't comment on other peoples thread either because I feel that I have nothing to say that hasn't already been said.

But anyways, I am guessing 4. One of them will be a not so nekkid nekked doggy.

Despite the less than ideal breeding circumstances I know you'll do your dogs and their offspring right and given them good lives. This isn't an oops, my ill tempered, poorly conformed dog with health defects humped my other less than ideal god-knows-whatsit. So you know what, enjoy the situation and the pups you'll soon have. My guess is 4 as well, 3 powderpuff, 1 hairless.

And hey, Ruby and Jasper will probably throw better offspring then what I've got brewing. :p

I thought both Ruby and her sister came from a high kill shelter?

the cresties i got with the intention of only getting one, i got them from a friend whos had to go back to the uk imediatly(and didnt want to 6 motnh quarrentine) she got them from a high kill shelter. the idea was take in both and try to rehome one, if we dont find a home for one they both stay but if we can find a home for one all the better.
