Having done both, I understand both viewpoints.

What I fail to understand is why it matters. Do whatever works for you.

Do I love Ruby more than Rocket? Allie more than Noodle?

This thread is baffling. I don't place special value on myself for rescuing River or my cat.

When I go to sleep at night, with breeder-acquired dogs on one side and a rescue on the other, what I value most in myself is my ability to be a good owner. My dogs are happy, clean, well-fed, and have a life they enjoy living. That's what it's about. Our relationship together.

I have two "rescues". Sawyer didn't actually come from a shelter. But he was abandoned by my neighbors as a puppy because he chewed, pee'd and pooped in the house, and was throwing up (ugh cause he had GIARDIA!). I hate my neighbors lol. Anyways.

Maggie May came from a shelter. I had been looking for a Cocker Spaniel because I had fallen in love with my moms Cocker Spaniel. Maggie was a puppymill dump at the rescue. And while I knew she would have her issues I adopted her.

Maggie has quite a few issues we work on daily. Nothing serious. She is just a nervous dog. She is terrified of most men and little girls (under 13 years old). I don't know why and we have tried to work through it. A select few are exceptions to the rule.

She also has health problems out the wazoo. Though switching her to raw has helped alot.

I could go on. But I don't have much time right now.

But Maggie is perfect with me and me alone.

I DO plan to get anouther Labrador and anouther Cocker Spaniel down the road. But for health reasons especially I am going with reputable breeders.

Absolutely, Renee! The two from that group that recently crashed Westminster ... one held up a sign against ethical breeders, claiming they are responsible for what happens to shelter dogs. Ridiculous!!

Yes, they do manipulate and indoctrinate ... and they see those involved in rescue as easy targets. Too many these days are falling for their propaganda without ever checking the facts for themselves. They have no idea of the vast difference between AR and AW. If someone claims an issue is important to them, then it behooves them to check the facts themselves ... but they don't. They just swallow the propaganda.

PETA-esque AR indoctrinators leave out facts such as how that organization immediately kills the vast majority of *adoptable* animals they remove from *no-kill* shelters. They've been caught red-handed dumping bodies in supermarket dumpsters, and have been criminally charged. They consider any form of pet ownership as well as working dogs (seeing eye, service dogs, drug-sniffers, etc.) as "slavery". They're nutjobs! But again, too many in rescue don't know because they don't bother to check the facts. :wall:
