I have fostered (mom and pups) , i then placed them for the rescue. I now have mom back. K...will i keep her NO, she doesn't fit my pack nor my life.
I will be either breeding a litter or buying another PB. Shame on me, but i am ok with that. That is what fits my life.

I love rescue but it isn't for me or mine...ah well...i guess i am someone that is killing dogs that i am not rescuing.

Sigh..sad

sooo...you dont' think you are a better person than a murderer, or a child molester? Or a thief or a liar?
Yes I do. I have no problem saying that out loud, here on the forum, in person, TO a child molester, murderer, etc........I would say it to their face because I DO THINK THAT.

I also consider myself better than abusive parents, people who beat their spouse or pets, I could go on and on of the ones I feel I am "better" than because I CHOOSE to do better. It's not always easy to do better, sometimes it sucks, LOL

I could also make a list of people I think are BETTER THAN ME :p

Was I BORN better? No, of course not. But anytime I judge someone else (and lets face it, we ALL judge others though it is wrong to do) I judge them on things they could HELP, things they DECIDE to do that set them apart, not how much money they have, not skin color, or religion.......not even whether they BUY a dog or rescue because that is a preference more than a moral issue IMO.

See post likes these annoy me...

You are assuming why someone chooses a purebred is because they're 'pretty' or some vain reason like that. That is not the case nor is someone who choses to rescue necessarily more 'caring' or more of a martyr than one who doesn't.

I feel zero guilt for getting the dogs I have. Don't feel guilty on my dogs' accounts at all.
:hail: :hail::hail:
um, multiple people have sited their reason for wanting a PB was appearance...should I quote them for you?
I was one of the people who mentioned appearance before. I'm getting a chi for my next dog, and I want it to look at the part of a chi. I have a VERY out of standard chi and she's an absolutely amazing dog. I still want a well bred chi and I won't apologize for it.

I dont rank one choice over another. and I certainly dont think that people that rescue are "better" than people who got their dogs from breeders, or vice versa

and for those that think that I went to a breeder just because I wanted a pretty dog, that is the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard

there are PLENTY of very very pretty dogs in shelters. and although what the dog looks like did go into my pro/con list of choosing a breeder, it wasnt the main reason, or even the top 5 lol

People often accuse people that get their dogs from breeders to be "snotty" or "higher than thou" but much more frequently ive run into people that look down on ME because I bought my dog instead of going to a shelter.

"I SAVED my dog, a dog DIED because of where you got yours".. oh please..
its like somebody doing something good and wanting a metal for it or something. Adopting a dog is GREAT but its not for everyone.

I went to a GOOD breeder and got a dog that is perfect for me. He will have a home for the rest of his life. isn't that what matters?

We are all in my eyes, good dog owners who love our dogs (purebred, mixed, adopted, bought) unconditionally, and thats what matters.
I dont think any one of us is "better" than the other!

We love our dogs. period.
:hail::hail::hail::hail:

One day I will go through a chi rescue. There's a great one in my state. That's just not what I want right now.

See these types of statements are what I can't wrap my head around. You love your chi, its been a good experience. But you must have the cookie cutter chi out of a dog book? May I ask why? :)

Chis are companions. They have to fit that mold to be a good companion? Please, Iam not trying to argue with you, I just don't . get. it.

I doubt you would. You don't seem to get why we go to breeders. So why would you get why we want out dogs to look like its breed?

I love Bounce to bits, but if I got a dog with Bounce's temperament in a JRT I would love the dog, but still want a breed standard JRT. And I started out as a pet JRT owner. I love the JRT personality, size energy level etc. You can love a dog but still want something specific in a companion.

ooooh ouch. Yes Iam too dumb to understand. Good job. You found me out. ;) maybe if som'one would explain to me that they don't want a pretty dog, because its pretty, but yet they want the pretty dog because its pretty. In a way that makes sense to me. Iam all ears.

thanks dekka for at least being polite and answering my question genuinely.

I'm still lobbying for papillon. I'll even lend you mine a while lol Of course that might backfire and you'd send her back... lol

Looks are not the end all be all but I'll be honest I like a dog to look their breed. That's not to say I loved my way out of standard sheltie any less than Trey who looked like he should be on a calender. But yeah I really do appreciate a dog that is true to their breed's form both physically and temperamentally. If I'm going out an buying a dog that is something really important on my list.

Saying because 'its pretty' is kind of missing the point. There's a LOT of reasons to enjoy well bred dogs other than looks. Looks play a part to me though. there are certain physical features in dogs I don't want.

Also just because chihuahuas and paps and pekes and pugs are all companion breeds doesn't mean they have the same temperament at all. Yes they all serve the same 'job' but they are very different in how they go about doing it. Nearly any dog can be a companion but I wasn't looking for any kind of companion, I was looking for a specific type of companion.

Maybe if you weren't coming off as "I'm better and smarter than you because I won't get a dog from a breeder" people would be more willing to answer you.

I doubt you'd understand because you seem pretty set in your ways. ;)

The reason I enjoy having a chi that is CHI STANDARD is because a "standard" is more than just how they look, breeders also breed for correct temperament

as for looks, yes, I enjoy that also. I think chihuahuas, per standard, are a beautiful breed and breeders that breed to standard help keep chihuahuas looking like what chis are supposed to look/act like! lol

If we didnt have breeder to breed dogs for traits we like, all dogs would end up looking the same. Chihuahuas would just be..kinda small dogs. without a standard, how do we know what is a chi and what is a papillon, etc..

Yes, being pretty is A reason why I chose to go to a breeder for my chi. he is within standard, and is a beautiful dog. but it is now THE only reason

he has the right temperament for a chi, as in:
Alert, projecting the ‘terrier-like’ attitudes of self importance, confidence, self-reliance.

Without breeders breeding dogs that are the right temperament and "look" .. we wouldnt have all the AMAZING breeds we have today.

Its not about pretty. and I dont think Its that you can't understand, I think its that you dont want to.

right, but there is a fair amount of gamble on a puppy anyway, even within a breed is there not?

My issue is that people say things like "i want a dog because it looks how its supposed to" and then then I say som'thing like "I don't care how a dog looks, IMO its not important the dog be pretty" I get jumped all over by people saying I think they are vain and shallow for wanting a pretty dog. But yet, you all readily admit that looks have bearing on your choice in a companion.

Follow me? :)

all you have done is further prove to me that the breed snobs think rescuers are morons. Good job. Now go back to chat and talk more crap. You are now on ignore. Grow up.

This statement doesn't really make sense. At least, not to me.

Everyone is entitled to like breeds for their looks. Looks should not be a deciding factor in getting the dog, but they definitely play a part in some people's decisions. There's nothing wrong with that.

No I dont "follow you".

yes, the way my dog looks WAS A factor in why I chose my dog. Ive gotta look at him everyday, i wanna like what im looking at

but when most people are going to a shelter or a rescue, they ALSO often choose dogs because they think they are cute/pretty

doesnt that make them JUST AS "vain"?

aaaaaand there are rescue dogs that fit that profile? There are, but they don't fit the perfect cookie cutter appearance wise. Which is my point. So if there is a resuce dog that fits that, but you chose a breeder dog, IMO you have based alot of that decision on looks.

Nope. I'm very grateful to those who work in rescue :) But, you seemed to have missed that point.

let me rephrase.

person wants a dog with a b and c qualities. There is a rescue dog that fullfills those qualities...yet they choose a PB... to me, looks were the deciding factor. :)

Crio.. a sad fact is rescue does end up supporting byb and puppy mills MORE dogs will die because YOU rescue. (I don't have the solution) but rescuing dogs is more likely to cause more dogs to die than buying from a good, ethical breeder.

Just stop and think. If there were no shelters or rescues and people had to PTS any dog they didn't want.. people would think a little more about just dumping a dog or getting an impulse puppy. (not suggesting this, I did say I didn't have the answer) So many people dump dogs and assume the nice rescue lady will find their 'fluffy' an awesome home. Or believe their 7 year old black mutt is going to find a home sitting in the shelter... Having a safe place to dispose of dogs makes it EASIER for those same people to go back the pet store or byb and try again, and again and again ensuring that there will always be an over population of pets...

Rescue is PART OF THE PROBLEM. Not a popular thought, but there it is.

I support rescue because it is necessary for the dogs, not because its a viable solution. AND even if you could stop breeding till all dogs had a home you would wreck so many breeds/bloodlines.. Over all BAD for dogs. We need BOTH rescue and breeders. We need breeders to keep the genetic trust that is our inheritance from previous generations of dog lovers. We need rescue people to keep cleaning up other people's messes.. cause until we ALL educate people on how to get a dog, that mess will still be there.

Oh and telling people to go to a shelter/rescue.. many people walk away with the idea that 'any dog will do' and the dog ends back up in the pound or shelter. We were Sport's 3rd home at 11 months, and he was born in the shelter... Its pretty hard to educate the public that they should want to support ethical breeders and then tell them they should live with a puppy milled dog... No wonder so many people don't have a clue..
