An NFL player was rushing with his wife to the hospital. His mother-in-law had terminal cancer, and the hospital had called to tell them she was on her deathbed.

En route, they ran a red light. It was the last light before the hospital. The guy waited until traffic was clear, than ran it. A cop pulled them over in the hospital parking lot, pulled out his gun and threatened them with jail. He ignored their story. Several doctors and nurses came out of the hospital to plead with the cop, to verify the couples story and beg the cop to let the couple into the hospital to see the dying mother. The cop said no. The woman finally just ignored the cop and ran into the hospital to see her mother.

The cop held the NFL player until after the mother-in-law died a few minutes later.

The whole incident was caught on videotape.

Dallas cop detained NFL player as relative died - NFL- nbcsports.msnbc.com

How horrible is that??

They put the cop on a desk job. I hope they fire him. @$$hole.

Yeah, did you see a guy got pulled over on the way to the hospital while he's 83 year old mother was having an asthma attack in the back of his truck? He was pulled over I think less than a mile from the hospital (it might have been 5) for having AN EXPIRED INSPECTION and begged the cop to follow him to the hospital. Cop refused and dispatched an ambulance, but by the time they got there, the woman was dead.

yeah I read that today. Believe you me...some cops in some areas TARGET athletes. They know their vehicles and follow them around, etc. Just waiting to make the big bust and get on TV. Thank gawd I am a nobody.

This story was terrible and one thing? they are going to be very sorry they messed with one of Jerry Jones pets...LOL. That guy does not like people messing with his team or his athletes and I understand he has MANY powerful friends.

You know... in a case like this... I hope he sued the pants off of the police department AND that cop.

The only problem with them suing the police department is the people who actually end up paying. That should be that cop who carries that burden

That is horrible! WTF?!

I had a horse fall on me when I was about 14, rolled completely over. My grandmother scooped me into the truck (we lived so far out that getting an ambulance was at least an hour ordeal) and hauled ass to the hospital. She got pulled over and when the cop got to the window he gave her an escort to the hospital.

Not only where is the sympathy there, but the compassion...my God, grandma's laying in the hospital DYING and he just wants to give them a freaking ticket? Get real!

Too many with badges have egos instead of compassion . One Christmas we were rushing husband Tom from Chicago to Indianapolis hospital with flashing lights and over the speed limit . I was hoping we'd be stopped and have a police escort .... guess I'm happy they didn't stop us ! I've run 2 other red lights besides this after stopping with a hospital run . Let's face it.... when it's an emergency and no other cars are involved , you don't wait 2 minutes at a red light !

I agree with that, for sure the cop should be footing the bill and he should be taken off the force until everything is settled.

This is becoming like Nazi Germany...where we have to fear the a$$es we employ. The power our government (large and small) has now is just sickening. Those stories are sickening.

Update...

Chief Kunkle used to be in charge in my city, before Dallas stole him to run their dump of a town. He's a good guy and I think the officer involved with be dealt with.

Sadly Gem, I think sympathy as flown out the window right along with politeness for most (not all people).

That's so disturbing.

What a horrible human being.

I also am aware of celebrity profiling, everyone always talks about how celebrities always get it easy, that's so wrong.

Every cop wants to be the cop that busts the celebrity, and the law often comes down harshly on them to set an example.
