Beau, or "Honey Of A Beau", as his papers said, was the most wonderful dog a little girl could have asked for. He came into my life when I was 7 years old and he was 7 weeks old. He was my first sheltie, thus beginning my love affair with the breed. He was my constant companion until I was 16 years old. I fell asleep on March 23, 1999 with Beau at my feet. When I woke up, I learned that he had been shot. He had needed to use the potty and my mom had let him out. We had a very cruel neighbor who thought it was funny to shoot innocent dogs. Beau was shot at close range in our own yard. 900 dollars worth of vet bills couldn't save him. I cried for months, and still cry to this day. To my wonderful friend:

I'm so sorry I couldn't save you. I'm so sorry that I wasn't there to protect you as you had always protected me. May you be in a place now where nothing can hurt you. Please wait for me and be there to greet me when I arrive. I love you more than anything and I will never forget you. Rest in peace my dear dear friend.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Poor, poor Beau.

I'm very sorry for your loss, especially in such a violent manner. No one should have to suffer that kind of cruel loss and I hope your Beau is in a good place.

Have you brought this up with the authorities or taken any kind of legal action? Such cruelty should not go unpunished, and I cannot BELIEVE there are people out there that are that sick! It's things like this that make me like animals more and more, people less and less.

I'm so sorry for your loss- what a horrible tragedy.

YES! you could talk to the police for sure and then TAKE him to small claims court to at least get the vet costs back!!!!!!!!! the police could fine him or something worse! that's animal cruelty and if you don't another animal could get killed by that ..... AHHHHHHH!
i'm SO terribly sorry for your great loss!

Thanks everyone for your sympathy. It's been about 7 years since I lost him, and there is still not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. He really was my soul mate in dog form. To answer the questions about legal action, I was dating my now husband at the time who is a police officer. The man was taken in for animal cruelty but of course go released two days later  . Pets just don't have much protection in our legal system. A few months later, my friend had let her black lab out and the same man shot that dog as well. Fortunately, the lab made a full recovery. A warrant was taken out for that man but he left to live with relatives and we haven't heard anything. It's so sad to think that people find it fun to hurt innocent dogs. I trust that God will give him the punishment he deserves. :(

Poor pup :(

My heard goes out to you.

Shelties are on the list for one of the friendliest dogs you've ever meet. We bred/showed/trained Shelties for years and recently got back into showing/training.

Your pup definately did not deserve that.

Take legal action if you can! There is no right for this man to continue on doing this.
