Hey everyone, so Cthulhu gets crusty buildup in his mustache from sleep tears. I haven't taken him to the vet yet, but he isn't showing any signs of eye irritation. I'm just wondering how i can clean up the gunk. He snaps if i try to pull it out, and i don't want to hurt him. I was thinking a little alcohol on a q-tip might work. Thoughts?

If its alot id take him in to the vet, sounds like a possible eye infection. Wash his face, I wouldnt use alcohol (why use that?) just some warm water and a cloth should work.

Just like humans, dogs' eyes tear. Tears accumulate when the dog is sleeping so that the dog would have tear stains. Excessive tearing can be due to an underlying medical condition. If this is the case with your pet it would be best to get the dog to a vet.

Tear stains can be lessened by gently wiping the dog's face with a damp towel everyday. Dry the fur thoroughly with another towel afterwards. Alcohol would not be necessary. Plain water will do.

Teary eyes can be due to infection but dogs can be teary-eyed. But if it is excessive, you need to take your dog to the vet for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Get it wet, use a cloth and warm water to get it soft enough to work out. If you can bath him it'll help as well. Then daily use a cloth to wipe his eyes.

If you get him groomed at all, mention it to the groomer to see if they can tidy up and trim that area so there is less hair for gunk to stick to, that will also help.

And consult a good trainer on how to handle your dog without him snapping. ;)
