Shaker is yet again anouther one of my SH and sled dog he's not a breeding dog though. He is 4 years old and doing well in his work and has never given me a single problem on the trail. He is one of the 7 dogs who sleep in the house.
Anyways i got quite the rude awaking this evening. I seem to forget that not only are my Pits victims of uneducated people harassing them but so are my huskies. I had to make a quick run to the local pet store this evening just to get a few things to prepare for my new malamute puppy on the way :D . I brought Shaker with me simply because he had been a good boy today and he very rarely gets to go on a car ride so i decided to take him with me into the store. Shaker is very well behaved and was actually doing really well in the store. The owner of the small shop knows me and many of my dogs from our visits and simply smiled at me and Shaker. I was looking at collers when a women came up to me and asked why he was wearing a leather harness (his working harness) just out of curiousity. I simply told her well he's a working dog a sled dog actually. She looked at me weird and then goes should'nt he not be in here I mean is'nt he viciouse? I simply looked at her probley pretty meanly and said No mam he's actually very well socialized and not vicouse at all. I also proceeded to tell her we're not in the 1800's in the Yukon with dogs fighting for their lives at least not my dogs. She just gave him anouther disgusted look and said "well i still don't like it".

This whole time Shaker was just sitting there looking at her and wagging his tail like he was waiting for a pet and never got one. I know it wasent a HUGE deal but it still upsets me. My dogs are pets who just so happen to pull sleds something they enjoy doing. The ones who don't enjoy it i have kept a couple but also adopt them out to friends. All of my dogs are friendly and well socialized dogs i make sure I spend time with every single one at least once a day on a one on one basis. They all love people and all get along well with other dogs.

Don't get me wrong im not saying i have never owned a testy husky I infact used to have a big white male named Willy. He was never bred simply because he had the occasional temper tantrum as i like to call it. He was a great sled dog and worked lead for me. But he was also a rescue from a shelter and I got him at the age of three to where he already had set in issues. Willy died this past year of old age and the physical complications that come with it like arthritus.

But Willy has been my only aggressive SH so far the rest a big babies and same with Chinooks I have had no problem what so ever with this breed of dog I love Chinooks because they are so willing to work and love to please. Their not the fastest dogs in the world but they do work with the most heart.

Sorry this was so long I just had to vent a bit

Poor Shaker! You give him a good pet for me, because I would have given that boy some love! I cannot stand ignorant people. Especially when it comes to animals. I am glad you told her all that stuff. It doesn't matter because she is so ignorant that she didn't hear a word you said.

I was telling my husband to drop off some food that Brady would not eat (picky, picky) at the local humane society tomorrow. He was joking with me that I would forget the homeless PEOPLE but make sure I had enough to give the animals. I said actually, if I had $5 left to my name and my choice was a homeless person or a dog or cat or something of such, I would spend my $5 on food for the animal. Animals have such innocent hearts though, so how could you resist?

Don't blame you for venting at all! Those kinds of people are just tiresome. At some point it's hard to resist the temptation to tell them to go and do something that's anatomically impossible . . . :D
