I call mine Sasha, dog, baby hippo, beached whale, pain in the _ss and my bedtime butt warmer. Yep, she knows that I am talking to or about here too with any of names above. She maybe a little over weight but smart :) YES, I know weight on a Daxhund is not good but diet and exercise and she still is one of those "easy keepers"

I've seen it spelled that way on Craigslist - "Dotson", "Doxen", "Daschund", etc.

I think people who say "Dash hound" are missing something in the spelling or (as some suggested) don't know anything about the German dialect.
Dachshunds are "Badger dogs" and "Dach" means badger, and "hund" of course, means dog.

So saying "Dash hound" negates the very root of the word LOL

LOL, I saw one that was "Doxin" on CL the other day. But Datsun is my favorite because...

It was a very cheap little car/truck make in the 80's (now called Nissan)

My family has 2 of them we use for beat-the-crap-out-of-farm-trucks. One is yellow, the other is blue, lol.

LOL, my uncle had a white Datsun and I always thought of Dachshunds and mispronunciations whenever I saw it.

I pronounce it "Dox-hund" but it comes out fast so you can't hear the "H" sound, so "Dox-und."

i also say docks hund. (FTR there are different ways of pronouncing the same word in germany based on local dialect) my german teacher was born in Leipzig in the Duetscher Demokratic Republik (WAY back before the wall came down).
i only use teckel for working line dogs. to apply that name to nonworking stock would be an insult to the working weiners (at least to my mind). it is the most commonly used, purposely trained blood tracking dog in the USA.

It is a hard K sound.

Docks Hund.
That's how I say it, and always have. My roommate, who has two dachshunds, says "Doxin." Most of my coworkers say "Dash hound" and it annoys the crap out of me >.< It actually took me quite a while to figure out what the hell they were talking about :p

in otherwords the sound difference is very subtle between docks hund & dahks hund. way closer to each other than most of the english language between TX & new england.

A lady at work said: Dash Hund.

I personally say Docks-hund, as does my mother and her entire side of the family who have owned them for generations.
