I fed him some rice with kibble but he vomited 30 minutes latter. The vet. had said not to worry if he vomited once or twice ... as if he expected him to.
I am really feeling extremely worried and tense. I don't want to lose him.

wierd your Vet would not be concerned about the vomiting
allot of good the medication will be if he brings it back up

the plain white rice and hamburg should help

you won't loose your baby, you responded quickly and now have medication
just keep liquid into him - even if you have to squirt it down

Thank you all for your care and quick responses. You'll never imagine how I much appreciate it. I was thinking of stopping feeding him for the next 24hrs.
What do you think ?

I agree with the crap comment ^

Good for you for taking him to the emergency vet. You did the right thing.

I don't know anything about coccidia but you should try getting pedialyte (electrolytes for babies) into him. It comes in flavours. Just add it to his water. You can buy it at pharmacies and grocery stores. I've even bought it at wal-mart.

If his stomach is upset just try to feed him bland food imo. Water seems to be the most important.

I'll get the pedialyte ... I just need to know the dosage and how often should he drink ? Thanks for all the help and support. I wish your pets all the best of health.

I used to give apple flavoured pedialyte to my rabbits! so I don't think you can overdo it with a dog. Is he drinking? Pedialyte isn't like powdered electrolytes - it's already diluted. Babies drink it straight which is why it comes in bottles you can screw a nipple on. That should give you an idea of how safe it is. If he likes it let him drink it as is. That's what I'd do. they are small bottles. For my big dogs I wouldn't have a problem letting them drink it all. Sorry. This is vague. I don't know specific amounts.

OK ... here is an update. Roy vomited several times during the night. He vomited everything, food, water and medication so I took again him to the emergency clinic where he spent the night. They kept him under watch and gave him fluids to make up for the dehyderation. I picked him up from the emergency clinic and dropped him off at our vet.'s clinic for the day just to be monitored as I have to be at work. I hope to God he pulls thru this ...

I'll keep you posted and once again, thanks for all the help.

Have you heard anything? I hope Roy is alright!!

A thought occured to me: You may want to make fliers that warn people to watch their dogs for signs of coccidia(sp?). Just something simple "There have been confirmed cases of coccidia in dogs that frequent this park. Please watch your dogs for signs of: "list symptoms here". Should these occur, contact your vet immediatly!"

You don't have to put your name on it or anything, but it lets people know if their dogs do start showing symptoms.

I have just picked Roy up from the vet. They tell he didn't vomit since I dropped him off at 8am this morning. But then he didn't have anything to eat or drink until 3.00pm [water ] and 4.00pm [ a handful of kibbles ]. He is totally worn out, looks very tired and he is very very hungry and sleepy.
The vet. said not to feed him anymore tonight and as of tomorrow start on a gradually increased portions of food. So the first day he eats 1/4 of his usual amount. That's 25% for the entire day to help his stomach settle down. if everything goes ok , as I hope to God, he should be back to normal diet in a week. He will have a checkup next Saturday.

As for the note at the park, I cannot do that because I am not sure he contracted it there. He might have contracted it where we go for him to poop close to our house where many other dogs go.

Thanks soooo much for your concern and taking the time to ask.

I hope everything goes well for Roy.

And a thought....It really doesn't matter were he picked up the disease. Since you were at the park and symptoms were showing, other dogs could be at risk. And could contact it from your dog. I would rather have that information if I were considering taking my dogs to the park. At least it would put it into other pet owners minds and educate them somewhat, so if symptoms start showing they don't wait around to see if their dog gets better.

I wish you the best and send you hopes for a quick recovery.:)

Thanks Julie for your wishes. Whenever I see him lying on the floor my heart just flips. About the note, you have an excellent point ... I'll do it.

Roy is getting better. He's not 100% himself yet but he's chasing flies and that's a good sign :)

Thank God, he hasn't vomited in the last 36 hrs. which is making me feel a lot better myself.

Thanks sooooooooo much to all of you for advice and well-wishes.

Thanks for your wishes and sorry for your loss. I know how it feels although my first dog didn't die. I had to give him up at the age of 6 months as I was leaving the country where I was living and until this minute I can still remember the look in his eyes and how I felt. Although it's very hard to but I hope you will get over it soon but don't forget him.

Regards
