I guess that's possible.

Though I am afraid it has to do with Fila's becoming more well known. Gods I hope they never become a trendy breed. :(
If I look on Washingtonpost.com at the puppy ads (which I don't too often) there is always one ad for "Brazilian Mastiffs - Aka Fila Brasiliero". I don't think most people around here know what they are. But I am seeing more ads for Cane Corsos and Presa Canarios, so I think there is a trend starting toward powerful mastiff types. Its really atypical to see a litter of any type of mastiff in the shelters around here, although it isn't too shocking that one ended up at PG County MD.

I could be mistaken but I could swear this is the same exact shelter that Lizzie the Fila was at last year? Plus right now besides these pups there is another pup they are calling a Fila mix at this shelter.

Well, PG County is NOT the best county in MD, to put it nicely. There is a lot of crime in that area, a lot of gang activity; its a poorer area. It makes sense that there would be a lot of criminal types drawn to "tough" breeds. Thus more "tough" breeds ending up in that shelter. That shelter is bad, its very overcrowded and full of disease; its not uncommon for FOHA to pull dogs from there that end up having kennel cough, among other things. Our recent parvo scare, at least two of the dogs that had parvo had come from PG. The people there are trying HARD though to make things better. They are constructing a bigger facility. And a lot of rescues, including FOHA, pull dogs from there all the time, but so many still die, since they have such a high intake rate.

I was looking at the crime stats for PG County, their homicide rate is going down. Only ten murders in October 2008.

Are the dogs still there? We could possibly at least foster a male if we could get him here.

Can we somehow help them? I mean seriously? Who could take one in and foster one before they run out of time?

I called the adoption line this morning to find out about the puppies, 301-499-8316, and spoke with a very un-knowledgeable person. She said "they are not filas, they are just mastiffs". I asked, "then what kind of mastiff are they", once again, she said, "we have them listed as just mastiffs". After 4 times of they are just mastiffs, they only thing I found out... they all have appliations on them and they are open until 4 today. I said great, now they could all being going to the wrong kind of owners...and hung up

Poor puppies I wish I could take all of them..and give them a big group hug and a home

Great. They won't acknowledge that they are filas and they are going to get into the wrong hands.... *sigh*

If we were not in the middle of moving I'd see about pulling and possibly fostering one or two of these babies till forever homes could be found. :(

Hate that they are so close to me and there is not crap I can to do help at the moment. :(
