Hi - I am an exhausted owner of a 3 mos. old french bulldog. She is my first dog and I'm worried about screwing up her training. House training is the number one difficulty right now. We are taking her out all the time, usually she goes right away, but sometimes not, then goes inside. Or...goes outside then come in and goes again 10 min. later. I have spent a week chasing her around our large house trying to watch her so she has no accidents, but I can't get anything done and am literally exhausted. She goes in the crate at night by our bed and sleeps pretty good (not much crying), wakes up once to go out then right back in until I wake up. She has peed in her crate twice, but last two nights she was good. She is in doggy daycare during the day, so I feel bad putting her in the crate when we get home as this is the only time she has to see us during the week - after work and in the mornings. I am burning out. Any advice?? I admit, I'm a total newbie...and a softy. :)

Hi.
Wow, sounds like you have your hands full. I have a puppy at the moment, so maybe I could help you out.

1, Always take him outside right after eating. If he does his stuff, then play with him.
2, NEVER punish your puppy for peeing on the carpet unless you catch him in the act. If you come home one day and find it there, put him in another room and clean it up with ammonia, it takes away the smell that will want to make your puppy go there again.
3, Crying at night at this age is normal.
4, Keep trianing sessions short. 15 minutes, tops.
5, You may be exausted now, but in a few months, it will all be worth it.

Hope this helped.

My husky mix puppy was sort of difficult to housebreak. I was told to let him out to play about ten minutes and then crate him for twenty and then take him outside to go potty. Do that for a few days then move it to fifteen out and fifteen in, then twenty out and ten in, then twenty five out and five in until your puppy is only going every half an hour. Our puppy caught onto that method pretty quickly. Also you can try keeping your puppy leashed at all times in the house and attached to you so you can watch for signs that your puppy has to go potty (that is how I train my current puppy). My puppy I am training now still spends an average of about four hours in her crate a day (besides during the nighttime). Also make sure you are cleaning her accidents with a cleaner that is ammonia free (they have them at petstores and stuff) so when she does have an accident then you can clean it up and she can't smell it anymore. Well that is all I can think of good luck with your puppy, post pictures if you have any.

Congrats on your new Frenchie. I have a Frenchie who is almost 4 years old and am besotted with her. With regards to the potty training, remember, this too shall pass! Sorry, not much advice, just wanted to say "hi".

hi

thanks for your reply. I am in love with my little frenchie too - I wish I could figure out how to attach a picture so I could send you one. They are such sweet dogs. Last night was much better after taking some advice and using the crate more and limiting the space in the house I let her go in.

Send pictures of your frenchie if you can.
