Destructive Inside Crate & Excessive Paw Licking

Well Saje, Waffle's story, and mine to goes like this: We have an 11 year old black lab (rescued him from the SPCA 10 1/2 years ago). This year, my husband & son started volunteering at our local SPCA walking dogs, and I started volunteering in their spay/neuter clinic. We thought it would be...

Destructive Inside Crate & Excessive Paw Licking

Yes, we do make it a positive experience - as positive as it coud be. We feed him in it (not with the door closed, however); keep his toys in there; and when we have to put him in there when we leave, we make it up beat, and always give a treat. Unfortunately, we were not able to get him...

Destructive Inside Crate & Excessive Paw Licking

yes, his paws seem to be fine, aside from often being wet from extensive licking. As for his destructive bedding behavior, we'll eliminate the bedding for now - and hopefully be a able to put it in at a later time, when he's more relaxed in it. Thanks all!

Destructive Inside Crate & Excessive Paw Licking

We have a new 4-year adopted pooch - (about 40 pounds, looks like part corgi, shephard, collie - and who knows what else) - named Waffle. Anyway, he's very sweet and loveable (had issues with our 11 year old lab for a while, but things are much better now). When we go out, we put Waffle in a...

New 4 yr mixed aggressive toward 11 yr lab

Hi.... thanks guys!! Bratt... we do feed Jett first- but as for cuddling him first - we really try to keep it even, especially when the other is around to see. I'd feel bad for either witnessing lavish love on the other without the same for him. I really think it helps to cuddle them at the...

New 4 yr mixed aggressive toward 11 yr lab

Hopefully I am not going to jinx things, but this weekend went very well! Waffle seems to be less interested in Jett and more importantly, less interested in going after Jett. He seems to be more settled and seems to realize he doesn't need to compete with Jett (who knows what is really going on...

New 4 yr mixed aggressive toward 11 yr lab

Thanks for the support & encouragement, Carolyn! :) Yesterday, with good alpha wolf policing on my husband's and my part (and keeping them apart when we can't be glued to them), Waffle only briefly growled at Jett (before we corrected him). They seem to be passing each other with out as much...

New 4 yr mixed aggressive toward 11 yr lab

Thanks all... We have instituted the NILIF technique, along with obedience work (primarily sit and stay right now) and my husband & I have become the alpha wolves and are dominating him. What a difference we've seen in 2 days!!! He no longer attempts to hump us, and has only nipped and barked...

New 4 yr mixed aggressive toward 11 yr lab

We have a wonderful sweet neutered lab - Jett, who is 11. We decided to adopt another dog -a 4 year old neutered male - 40 lb mixed breed (corgi, shepherd, spaniel mix... not too sure) named Waffle. We took both Jett & Waffle for a walk at a park to test the waters, and all seemed well... no...
