    Firehouse Dog movie

Thanks for your replies! I know that it's unlikely the breed will see the same explosion in popularity since breeders for the IT are few...but you never know. It seems if there is a profit to be made from a breed then there is someone out there unscrupulous enough to make it, ya know? And once...

    Firehouse Dog movie

Some of you may have seen the ads (or even seen the movie) for "Firehouse Dog". The movie features a rather uncommon breed, the Irish Terrier. I've owned an IT for 2 years now, and I'm already getting e-mails from people asking me where to get one based solely on the movie:( Our breeder was...

    Irish Terriers

Actually, I am the proud owner of a female IT! She's almost 2 years old, and is a wonderful dog, although certainly not for everyone, LOL. They are very active, very intense, but very devoted. There is nothing "middle of the road" about the IT - they're an all or nothing kind of dog, LOL!

Someone Please Answer My D*a*m*n Question!!!

Yes, and this would be true of a young bitch of any breed. While young animals can breed it doesn't mean they should be bred, as it can certainly affect their own development.

Someone Please Answer My D*a*m*n Question!!!

Unless you have experience as a breeder then it is very unwise to allow your dog to continue this pregnancy. Combining a small breed, a very young dog, and pregnancy is likely to end in serious complications for your dog, possibly even death. Even an experienced breeder would recognize the...

    Trachea injury/irritation?

Yesterday my kid opened the door and our dog (year old Irish Terrier) went to run out. Not really thinking I grabbed her collar and pulled her back (there was some traffic on the street and was very worried she'd run out into it). She coughed a bit after and gagged once, but nothing serious, so...

Montreal is fabulous! Make sure to visit Old Montreal, maybe take a horse-drawn carriage tour - and leave time to shop, LOL! The shopping is great! It's probably one of my favourite Canadian cities!

Happens here, too, especially on First Nations reservations. There is one reserve in Ontario that has an extremely rare genetic blood disease that causes death in early infancy, and it appears to be because of lack of "fresh blood" over generations. I

Oh yes, that's an issue within Hutterite communities, too. Even in the 1940's I know some young German Canadian men were "propositioned" by Hutterite elders with the intent of adding some new, distinct bloodlines and lessen the risk of genetic disease. My dad was one of the young men...

    canada vs. us

Sure, but we've been discussing the differences between Canada and the USA, and the knowledge disparity is one large difference I can see. And I'm sure you do have block heaters in some states, LOL, just maybe not in Texas where they were stopped!:)

    canada vs. us

I'm more familiar with Hutterites as my parents are German-speaking and my dad had some Hutterite friends. Amazing how a little German will get you a free Hutterite-made saskatoonberry pie at the farmer's market, LOL!

Very true, and I think they are in Ontario, with very small numbers in their group. I would imagine the closest Western Canadian comparison is the Hutterites, as I mentioned above.:)

Good question, about the Amish. I'm sure if they don't know much about the USA they probably know (and care) less about Canada, LOL. We actually have a comparison to the Amish here (in Western Canada), a group known as the Hutterites. They've embraced technology a little more than the Amish...

Yes, and I know a couple who emigrated more recently, including some engineers who have come to work in Canada.

    canada vs. us

I don't think anyone has said that. I think what has been pointed out is that your average Canadian just knows more about America than your average American knows about Canada. There are reasons for that, but I think it is probably quite true.

Hmm, my dh the engineer, LOL, was offered a job on Chile at one point. We decided not to go due to some personal reasons (ill health in my elderly parents) but perhaps we'll end up there some day. I know a few Chileans now living in Canada, and they are wonderful people!

    canada vs. us

I think, though, that fallacies about Canada ARE more common in the USA because you don't study us in school, or see our television news, or read our papers. How can one know that Canadians don't live in igloos or ride sleds if you don't know anything about Canada? I've met many American who...

    canada vs. us

I don't get that either, Saje. I think in some respects the US just very much takes Canada for granted, kwim? And when we actually stand up and don't agree to go along with something they are proposing I think they sorta go "eh?" and it shocks them, LOL. I want to go to Chile, LOL!

Quick note, Nelvana also does "Fairly Odd Parents", and several other shows that I *know* are shown in the USA, LOL!
