At my wit's end with rescue dog!

Training good behavior Some of the posts brought up an important point - not reenforcing bad behavior unintentionally. If your dog does something bad, a person's inclination is to correct the behavior and then treat the dog for the good behavior. What this actually does is tell the dog that...

Calming a dog on fast forward

I have a house full of Aussies, and they all can be pretty energetic, but they also have a "stop" mode, in which they understand we're not playing. They'll lay all around my desk if I'm on the computer, for instance. My niece, however, has an Aussie that seems forever stuck on fast forward. This...

    Paws-on dominance

Paws Thanks for your responses! I was thinking much the same thing. Honestly, this particular Aussie is a large black/white bi-color, and he's a big teady bear. Even with the other dogs, he'll only fight if one of them REALLY antagonizes him. He's the alpha, but he's just not that aggressive...

    Paws-on dominance

I've read that if a dog/puppy puts their paw on you, it's a show of dominance. I'm not sure if this is the case. I have one Aussie that will often loop a paw over my wrist as I'm petting him. It seems close to holding hands would be for humans. Sometimes he'll sit straight up from butt to head...

    Wil's pack

I have a house full of Aussies. We just had puppies, so there are a lot of dogs around. They're all wonderful. The adults are Atom, Eve, Ash and Z. Z is actually an Aussie/Border Collie mix, and is the only one that has a tail.
