Ok so this is a long story so please be patient lol.

A few months ago some people who I know (not necessarily like lol) called me and wanted to know some stuff about APBT's because they had just got one (nothing like waiting til after you get the dog to do the research). I figured since they already got it, I may as well try and help them out and give them some advice to try and make the best out of the situation. I told her straight that the dog came from an extremely bad breeder and to make sure that they properly trained and socialized the dog. That they NEEDED to do this. Well now the dog is 6 months old, they lock it in the bathroom with their poodle (who I will tell you about in a second), and it is still not even house trained. They haven't even tried housetraining it!!!!

Ok, now for the poodle. The lady called me about 2 weeks ago because they "noticed" their dog would not walk on its one front leg. She told me it happened two days before that. I told her it sounded like it was broken and told her to get the dog to the vet for xrays. She didn't listen. Its now been two weeks and I found out they never took it to the vet and it is still not using that leg. Now I am really mad!

Then today I was talking to a friend of mine that knows these people and she told me that they are getting another dog. They are getting an English Bulldog :yikes: (not a breed for most people, as you all know). Then my friend continued to tell me who they are getting it from. They are getting the dog from a lady in town who breeds anything and everything. Your typical puppymill, lets put it that way. I know of this lady very well and I know she only has one English Bulldog that came from another puppymill and has serious health problems and skin conditions. Oh, I should mention that this female Bulldog is not even a year old yet and she bred it already!!!!!!!!!

So now I am furious. These people don't have the time to spend training their pit, and can't afford to take a dog with a broken leg to the vet but they are going to spend $2000.00 on this dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't know what to do anymore. The SPCA here (if you can even call it that) doesn't give a $h!t. Trust me I have had first hand experience. The Provincial SPCA is as useless as the city SPCA. I have tried explaining to the breeder and the owners that what they are both doing is wrong and no one wants to listen!!!!!!!!! I just feel so horrible!

Are animal control and the SPCA the same where you live? If not, call Animal Control, they are usually the ones go out there. Raise Heck if you have to. Emphasize over and over that there is a severly injured dog at the residence. They unfortunatly can't do anything about the pit. If you still can't get any help, threaten to take it to the papers that they won't help you. I'm sure your Animal Conrol, just like most other ones, are overworked, but keep calling until you get a response. Darn frustrating that you can't do more.

I would call animal control............if we had animal control. We only have the SPCA and that place is the biggest joke. I could tell you story after story about that discusting place and the people who run it. Its a sad story when it comes to animals in this town, that is for sure.

Thats just sad, very sad.
animal controll here is worthless as well. There are a few groups who are working at changing thier policies but the dog shelter just doesnt have the room here and I believe thats a big motivating factor. I try real hard to help find homes for thier dogs and have helped place 3 this year along with taking in 4 rescues.
I hope that something happens. This lady doesnt need to own a dog. Not even a cockroach.

Do they have enough room in their bathroom for 3 dogs? Or will they be dumping one of their others? I can't believe there are no laws in your area for failing to provide reasonable veterinary care for an animal. Sick.

There are laws but no one enforces them. A lady I know called the SPCA many times because there were two toy poodles chained in a guys back yard. They were constantly wrapped around one another and never had food, water or shelter. They were matted right to the skin and they were out side night and day, freezing cold or scortching hot. When the SPCA did nothing she went to these peoples hows and basically told the people "look, obviously you don't want your dogs" and asked if she could have them. The owner told her she could and went in the house and got the leashes (that had never been used) and wrote her note stating that she was turning over ownership the the other lady. The lady that took them couldnt keep them and took them to the SPCA. The SPCA said they needed the letter that said they were hers and asked for the drop off fee of $40 each. The next day the original owner comes banging at her door saying that she had gotten her dogs back and telling this lady that she had stole them from her and wanted their leashes back. The lady that had taken them to the SPCA called them and left message after message with no response. She then called the Provincial SPCA....she got chewed a new a$$ by them because the ppl at the city SPCA had called the provincial people and told them that if so and so made any complaints not to bother listening because she stole the dogs. Nothing was ever done...even with video tapes and pictures. The dogs are still in the ladies back yard, matted, starving, thirsty and shelterless. This city is so sad when it comes to animals.

If someone is neglecting an animal with an injury (poodle) there has to be someplace you can turn them in. The other stuff is out of your control. The neglect of the injury is your only bait in this situation. Keep making noise until someone listens.

Write a letter to the editor about the SPCA. Write to the national ASPCA with your complaints; it's likely they'll at least look into it - hopefully send a representative out to check things out (I've seen this done before). Contact USDA about the puppymill kennel; many puppymills are regulated & investigated by USDA.

Good luck, what a cruddy situation.

That's very sad. I hope somethings done. Our shelter around where i live isn't even a shelter. Its just called animal control. the nearest animal shelter is in the next county about 45mins. to an hour away. Ours used to be on petfinder, but they either took themselves off or they were took off. I talked to one guy down there say that they had 75 cats living there! there was a small fenced in area About 15ft by 15 ft. with 8 or 10 medium sized dogs in it. There was a very small dog house with them that one dog couldn't even get in and shade from the shelter. I could clearly see inside through one window dog kennel runs. The "shelter" is worthless. It took them a month to pick up 2 strays from around my neighbor's house That lives across the street. How do you find out about animal laws regarding shelters in your state? Is there a website i can go to?

Go to the papers in your area. Everyone will see. Then you will see how fast the shelter and the owners will react. Call in a news crew. That will be even better. I'll be watching.

Aww, those poor dogs. That's horrible. I really hope someone cares and does something for the sake of the dogs. :(
