We have a bunch of nice trails near the house that I like taking Hudson on. It was nice in the winter because I had a bulky coat with lots of pockets to carry treats, poop bags, keys, phone, toys, etc. now it's getting warmer and I'm down to just my spring jacket which does not have a lot of storage space.

how do you guys carry all of your stuff when out on walks? I've thought about a fanny pack, but the idea hurts my soul. I also have a dog pack that I've considered putting on Hudson so he can carry some stuff, but I'm now sure how well that would go.

Wait until he's older for the pack - he's a baby and still growing.

Backpack for you?

Most of that stuff could easily clip onto a belt loop, if you're wearing jeans. When I took my dogs out for hiking/playtime, phone went in my pocket, poop bags got tied to the leash, keys clipped on belt and treats in a little pouch to clip onto the belt. I usually just brought a tennis ball and that got shoved in my jacket/hoodie pocket.

Even though he's still growing, you might want to acclimate him to wearing an empty backpack with no weight added so in a couple of months he can start carrying lighter loads.

I bring a backpack (for me).. I would rather buy a pack mule than wear a fanny pack.

The really basic jansport backpack has served me well. It's really light and machine washable, inexpensive and does the job. I throw it around and sit on it and it still looks new.

I keep poobags and a bowl and a bottle of water etc.. in there so it's always ready to go.

Funny you started this, I was JUST thinking the same thing. I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts on our 4 mile walk the other day and realized I had no where to put anything, so I just clipped my keys to the loop of his leash and I stuffed my phone in my bra (FTW :rofl1:). Poop bags were attached to my leash with a poopie bag holder.

But I really need to buy a small backpack because I'm going to have to start carrying water and stuff too.

I have a Hurtta dog walking belt I like - room for poop bags in one pocket, clip for keys, another pocket for treats, and some space for my ID. DOOG also makes something similar.

I don't generally carry toys with me, but if I will be or I need to carry more stuff on a longer trek, it all goes into a hydration pack I wear.

How old is he? If he's big enough to wear a pack, the poop bags and keys are not going to add enough weight to matter. If you want water and toys, I carry a backpack. If we're hiking I also keep a small first aid kit with me.

You timed this thread perfectly, we just moved and the Bruce trail runs next to our house and as the weather warms up I have been hitting it up after work while trying to juggle, keys, dog bags, phone, treats, and water bottle. I really like the dog back pack idea but with my main jogging/hiking buddy being the little one I was looking for alternatives. Although in the winter he has a jacket that has a pocket and he carries keys and dog bags so a little one for that purpose is a possibility still.

There have been a few days where I'm like, "Pup, get you're things, we're going on an adventure!"

Gather all the things in my hands and just look around confused like on where I'm going to put things, then go "Never mind pup. To the hill to play!"

I think I'm going to start getting him use to the pack thing. It's one of the Outer Hound ones that the pack part comes off.

I have an old simple messenger bag I carry on hikes. I like the over the shoulder design as I can access it easily without taking it off.

I have a backpack that is old and grungy, but rather large, to carry all the things. I tend to overpack as well, so I need a big bag.

Once Siri is an adult she will be wearing a pack. I figure she might eventually weigh enough to carry a water bottle in each side :rofl1:

I won't put a pack on Frodo because of his shape/joints and because he needs all his own energy just to make it through the hike :p

There it is!

I... Never brought enough with me for this to be a problem. Apparently I'm mean. :p
Ours isn't fun stuff?
I usually have water bottle or two and a dish for him to drink from.
Flexi, in case he needs to go on leash.
Harness, in case he needs to go on leash.
Extra collar, just in case!
6 foot leash.
Treats, and extra treats! :p to work on proofing recalls and such.
Poop bags.

I really should think about getting some vet wrap or some kind of mini first-aid kit.

I was just casually checking out Outward Hound stuff on Amazon and they have all their stuff on sale ridiculously cheap right now, including dog backpacks and this small and convenient human one for 3.98 (reg 25.99!) which has two canvas dog bowls, food pouch, place for keys and dog bags. Sounds awesome for shorter outings and jogging.

Me neither. If I bring water I bring the Gulpy which has a clip, but usually I stash some in the car and we just drink before we set off/when we get back to the car. Unless it's HOT HOT HOT the dogs won't drink while we're out and about, too many other exciting things going on.
My clicker is on a carabiner, which I also snap my keys and poop bag dispenser to, then snap it to a pant loop. Cellphone goes in a butt pocket on my pants. I don't usually bring any toys but tennis balls will usually fit in my pants pocket, or if I'm wearing a sweatshirt/jacket into the jacket pocket. Treats just go straight into my pockets as well.

I don't usually bring anything. Lol.

Juno has a backpack and I'll put water in that. Keys get clipped to my belt loop, phone is in pocket. That's about all I need. If I couldn't put a pack on Juno, I'd just wear one myself I guess!

I have this in black an I love it. I don't like traditional packs bc you always have to take them off to get at stuff.

I like having a few things with me: water, bowl, extra leash, treats, poop bags, tennis ball, vet wrap, bag to put poop bags in.

And I hate bulky pockets or finding crumbs in my pockets. LOL.

ETA: Like Frodo, Muffin is lucky if he can make it down the block before wanting to go home. LOL. No packs for him, I'd never get a hike done. :-( I miss Sir Washington, my hiking extraordinaire.
