Fleetwood is 10 months old now, so I'll tell you about my experience with my first Beauce. Not a dog for everyone, for sure!
He's super drivey with the toy. Amazingly intelligent. Learns super quickly, and he's super obedient. Extremely owner oriented (or mommy oriented
) and very easy to handle. Hed let me do Anything to him. No behavior issues in the home, such as housetraining chewing etc. He's high energy, but docile indoors. Excellent off leash. Never reactive, and wonderfully gentle with other animals, especially the cats.
They tend to be a healthy breed, unfortunately Fleetwood seems to be suffering from Panosteitis (common in large dogs, but not in his family) but other than hips, there's not much.
He has been so heavily socialized it's almost ridiculous. He has gone somewhere decently populated and met new people literally every day since I've had him. Despite that, he's naturally reserved, quite so with men. He doesn't trust men right off the bat, but he tends to take to women right away. Once he's met somebody once, he doesn't forget them. The breeders dogs were confident and greeted both my dad and I with no reservation.
With dogs, he began showing DA issues since 11 weeks old. He appears to just be selective and/or fearful with new dogs that he meets (never reactive), but gets along well with established friends. The breeders dogs were stable, and regularly attend the dog park.
Unfortunately, this ailment is kicking his butt, and he suffers a lot of bad days where his temperament reflects that. But all in all, he's an awesome companion (and he excels at RallyO so far), and I'd love to have another!
