:lol-sign:

In an attempt to not hijack the other Ella's Lead threads, here is one for Frodo.

I want your opinions on whether he could rock a 1.25" collar.
The collar in the picture is a 1" martingale from Collar Mania. (sorry about the quality, he did not want me behind him taking pics)

And here is the collar.

Plus if the pics are accurate, it would match his harness perfect!!
New harness courtesy of Megan (aka: the most awesome person IN THE WORLD!), it's a Premier Sure-Fit Harness, which are adjustable every which way for odd shaped dogs like Frodo. LOVE IT!

So, could Frodo rock the 1.25" or should I stick with 1"?

I'm not a huge fan of tapering down (I love rolled collars that taper up though, lol) but I think I would have to give and do it for this collar.

I think tapering would be necessary. I'm looking at Kaylee's 1.25" collar and can't imagine it fitting Revy comfortably. Then again, Revy is teeny tiny. ;)

gimme a second.
I'll go downstairs and see if there is ANYWAY that concho could possibly fit on a 1" wide collar.
I don't think it can though, but I'll look. :)

The concho would overlap and it might get yanked if he were to scratch or rub up on something.

:(

I think he could do 1.25" wide collar tapered to 3/4".

You could cut a piece of paper that wide and wrap it around his neck to see. Keep in mind that it would be tapered to 3/4" and that takes away from the bulk of the collar where it would seem bulkiest.

We have that collar and I was unsure about width, but the 1.25" really doesn't seem much wider than 1" ime. Z generally only wears up to 1" collars but I popped ours on her to see how it fits and it still looks snazzy and didn't seem to faze her. :) Z is 15.5" at the shoulder and 23lbs. Her neck size is 12.5" and from the base of her ear to the edge of her shoulder blades is 4".

Obviously it's a bit long on Z since it's sized for Kes, but you get the idea. ;)

I definitely think he can rock it!

I ordered Rylie a 3/4 inch collar that tapers to 1/2, and she's a 4lb dog. If she can rock that, than Frodo can rock 1.25 inches!

Sizzle, she IS a munchkin! lol
Frodo is 29 pounds!

Stardogs, thank you thank you thank you for posting those. That makes the decision for tapering easy! Looks great from the back and heavy in the front.

Tapering 1.25" down to 3/4" would certainly make it more "size appropriate". The 3/4" buckles are a nice double-bar, where the 1 inch would be a heavier halter buckle.
So that means that the buckle and D-ring would be smaller on the tapered one, right?

Becca, can I be a complete PITA and ask if you have any pics of a collar that is 1.25" and is tapered to 3/4"?

*le sigh*

OOOkay, I'm convinced, now I just need to wait for a few days before I order it so that I can file it under responsible purchase and not impulse purchase.

I think he could do it :) I love Quinn's 1.25" Ravenclaw collar - it is such a good width for her. Maybe a tad heavy on the bottom of her neck though (but I don't find her 1" too heavy - funny how much of a difference a quarter of an inch makes!). I'm asking for another Ella's Lead collar for my birthday but I'm torn on width - I'm thinking either 1" or a tapered 1.25".

Pretty much every collar Saga gets from here on out will be tapered. Her 1.5 EL collar is tapered down to one inch, as is her CM martingale. Matter of fact, the pink martingale she had on at your house was a 1.5 to a 1 inch. It makes a huge difference. There is a store in Des Moines that sells 2Hounds martingales and I tried them on her. They aren't tapered and seemed too much like a neckbrace for her. A couple of years ago, I was at the Pet expo and there was a lady selling the tapered martingales, which is where I got her pink one and it looked a lot different on her.
