Bamm LOVES LOVES LOVES Turkey Jerky and Beef Jerky so whenever I have some he is more focused than usual lol... Sometimes I'll break some of it up into small bites and use it when we're working on something new or something more difficult.

So what's your dog's favorite currency

Lucy can't have hardly anything, so there aren't many options. We use zuke's peanut butter for training in the house, cheese for agility practices, and canned salmon for agility trials. She goes nuts for all of 'em.

... Her chicken ball toy thing? Ahaha. Psyche will do just about anything for that. But in terms of food, we get liver (sometimes chicken hearts) by the pound and boil it, cut it, and dry it out in the oven, and those are pretty high value for her.

As for Zoey, she loves ANYTHING, but her two top favorites seem to be liver/chicken hearts and those crappy quality "Beggin' Strips!". Sometimes I'll forget her treats at home (because I'm so used to training Psych with only toys now) and so we'll buy those on the way. She goes crazy for them.

Peanut butter is for kong time here, but it's definitely well loved. I haven't tried the canned salmon yet though... is it in a can like the caned tuna or is it more like slices in a tin like sardines?

Around here we buy two cans, mix it with flour, 2 eggs, some oil and gralic and make "salmon treats". They're great. But as for what they look like in the can, it's kind of like tuna. Same round can, not like sardines. But to me, personally, it looks like a bit chunk of their torso put into a can. :p

ok that seriously sounds like something Bamm would go nuts for... do you bake it in the oven at all when you shape it into treats (i'm guessing so with the flour being added and all) what kind of oil do you use

Doom: Ball. He will do ANYTHING for ball.
Bobsie: Yum yums of ANY sort, especially the peanut butter bacon balls I make. Those are her FAVORITE.

Just a second, Amber, I'll see if I can find the exact recipie. I haven't made it in AGES. We made it for Zoey when she was in agility classes, so a few years ago. Warning, it STINKS when you're cooking it, but they aren't bad once they're cooked, and you can freeze them to keep them longer too! :)

I think I will have to totally agree with you on Doom with the ball... he was having oh so much fun with the ball when you were over here lol. And peanut butter bacon balls? I'm intrigued.

Awesome thank you so much. Stinky is fine... I wonder if you could make them with canned tuna or canned chicken as well as canned salmon to mix it up a bit... I have a feeling Bamm is going to really like these

And tada! I love the search option on yahoo!mail.

SALMON TREATS

In food processor….chop ‘til blended

2 cans (7.5 oz.) salmon(no need to drain)
3 eggs(I throw the shells in as well!)
¼-1/2 c. canola oil
Garlic/parmesan(1 tablespoon each?)

Remove to bowl and add flour until its consistency is like bread dough.(around 2 cups?) Roll with a rolling pin on cookie sheet. Spray with Pam(it is very sticky!)
Score with a pizza cutter in bite size pieces.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 min. let cool then break apart. Can be frozen until ready to use.
Only things we do different here are we don't add the parmesan and we score ours with the pizza cutter after wards, though I can see how doing it before would help.

They're great! :)

ETA: We posted at the same time, but yes, you could do it with tuna, or chicken, etc.. I've even seen people do it (and heck, I think I've done it too!) with liver blended up to a similar consistency.

For Missy, food. She loves food, any food, she doesn't discriminate. :lol-sign:

For Jack, anything soft and meaty, like the Zukes treats, or freeze-dried treats. He doesn't really go for hard, crunchy biscuits much, plus it takes him forever to eat them, so we don't use them for training. Also, soft squeaky toys - he loves squeaky toys.

YAY! thank you much. I'm going to have to give this a try... I actually have everything but the salmon here right now though I have canned tuna so I can try it with that. :)

Peanut Butter Bacon Balls
2 cups unsweetened creamy peanut butter
6 slices of crispy bacon, drained (Bacon bits work well, too)
1/2 cup low fat cream cheese, softened

Crumble the bacon, mix it all up, and throw it in the fridge for an hour or so. Pull it out and form it into little balls, and make your puppies very happy. LoL

Shay I made those biscuits with canned tuna since I don't have salmon right now... let me just say they're a HUGE hit. I have them in Bamm's treat tin and he keeps eyeballing the tin waiting for another cookie.
