Sonic killed another cat in his yard last night. i guess they think because he lays around all lazy like that he isn't worth worrying about. my wife called me into the bedroom & told me she heard some growling sounds outside under the bathroom window. i went out to check & he was putting the finish on the cat.
i'm torn on the one hand i hope it was no one's pet especially some kid.
OTH
it does save the lives of hundreds maybe thousands of songbirds & other wildlife. and if the owners didn't want it to get killed they should have kept it in the house.

he took a good bite to the right front right leg and he has a mild limp. i washed it w/ betadine & gave him a shot of pennicillin just to help prevent a possible infection. now i can't run him for at least a week. CAT OWNERS SUCK!!!!!!

That's pretty crummy logic. "If people didn't want to die in car crashes, they shouldn't drive."

For all you know, it was a house cat that escaped. I'm not a cat person at all, but have a little compassion for the likely family of the animal.

CAT OWNERS SUCK!!!!!!
First you say you hope the cat didn't belong to somebody, then you say that cat owners suck. I'm not a cat owner, but i think this is very hypocritical. I mean, your dog DID kill a cat...4 this year, actually (that you know about)

^This. You don't know that the cat was meant to be out, could have escaped. I mean, your dog got bit, somebody could go ahead and say "if you didn't want your dog to be bit, you should have watched him outside"

I mean yes, he was in his backyard, but stray animals happen, and bite.

Yes, the cat owners should have kept the cat in thier house/yard. I dont blame you or your dog since it was in your yard.

But cat people could say dog people suck because there are stray dogs. Blaming it on cat people is the same as saying dog people are bad. Just because there are bad apples doesnt mean they are all bad.

i know about everyone he kills (both in the yard and while out hunting). he gets very proud of himself & likes to show them to me. he has actually killed two others while out hunting in the last year. if i let him run down & kill a feral in the national forest & he takes a hit that sidelines him, thats my bad and i have no one to fault but myself. if someone allows their POC to free roam and he gets sidelined while killing it in his yard, well if i knew who the owner was & it was free roaming all the time , i think i just might slap them upside the head w/ their dead cat.
to clarify, i hope it wasn't an inside only escapee especially if it belonged to some kid. people who own cats & let them free roam suck, royally (so do people who allow their dogs to roam), and should have every expectation their cat will be killed shortly. if not a dog then a coon, fox, coyote or owl will get most of them within a year.
mostly i'm tired of cleaning up the mess before the neighbor's see it & get bent out of shape. not to mention my concern over dangerous dog classifications here.

Cats are independent. They like going outside.

A year ago today my cat was killed when he went outside. Sorry but he just wasnt happy inside all the time.

Oh and my moms cats are outside/inside cats and have been for the last 9 years.

shrugs. Sorry your dog got hurt, but to say cat owners sucks, that kinda sucks too.

Just to clarify..not all cats like going outdoors. I have 5 and not one looks at the door...and three were found as strays/likely dumped, so have had experiences outdoors.

I hope the cat didn't belong to someone. Do keep an eye out for lost cat ads so you can tell the owner. I think the unknowing would be awful

I'm sorry the cat got killed. I'm sorry you're dog was the one that did the killing. I always knew that when I was taming the barn kittens at my grandma's farm, that I probably wasn't going to see them around much. They were semi-feral outdoor cats and they tend to live short lives.

All cat owners do not suck...those that randomly let their cats out and expect nothing to happen to them operate under a form of delusion I envy.

I am sorry Pops, it not only sucks to have to tend a issue like that, it sucks that your dog was injured because other pet owners negligence. Yes I say negligence because we would ALL be up in arms at the owner if their DOG came onto your property and caused an injury to your dog.

I must say though, I hear about cats wandering into random yards a lot on Chaz, we must have smarter cats where I live because you could not PAY THEM to come into my back yard! I figure it's the "dog smell" but they seriously DO NOT ENTER! LOL.......they get in my trash on the side yard, and even wander up on the front porch, but they WON'T go in my backyard!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I do not blame you OR the dog, since the cat was in your yard.
My cat runs loose some during the day. I enjoying having my cat but I completely understand the risk of him running outside. He goes in the woods behind my house, and to the neighbors house and she doesnt mind because she has seen him mouse in her barn.
My cat would be so unhappy as an indoor only cat that I think it would be VERY mean to make him inside only.
I dont necessarily want my kitty to be ate by a dog, but I completely understand and do not hold anyone but me responsible when it happens.

Sorry about this, Its not your dogs fault.
I dont think letting a cat run loose is any better then letting a dog run loose IMO. Its irresponsible.

Its even better when somebody has a declawed cat that they let run loose with no protection... Cats and the outside depend on how they are raised.. People take toattally Feral ADULT cats and convert them to house cats that dont take a second lance at the door to get out... If your cat likes it out side get them used to a hraness and keep them in your own yard..Or watch them in a fenced yard (I also know tonnes of pepople that do this).. I think it is SO rude to just let your pets roam, no matter what it is.. Roaming pets are a nuisance, especially cats.

Snip is a cat killer. I feel horrible everytime he gets one. And these are feral (but fed) farm type cats. I just wish they would stay off my property.

Not all cat owners suck. Up untill a few years ago I always had cats (house and barn cats). If you love your cat and don't want it dead keep it inside. If you love your cat but think its worth it for him/her to risk running free then let them out unattended.

I couldnt agree more. if it was a dog every one would say it is very irresponsible on their part. Its irresonsible to let a cat run free IMO.

If marley want out, she gets her harness and leash on and tied up, and sent out wth Blaze to protect her lol

The cats in my neighborhood have learned not to come into our yard. No kills but a lot of close calls and now they don't come around.

We have a cat. He's 16 years old and is an indoor cat. The extent of his outdoor activity is sunning himself on the deck and sometimes he'll wander around to the driveway and sun himself there.

Blah, I hate loose cats. So many are dead around here on the streets it's disgusting, let alone several running in front of my car to the other side constantly. I recently got a poster in my mailbox about a missing Bengal cat who "has never been outside, and doesn't know how to survive." Really quite sad, I hope they find their cat but chances are very slim.

There's a cat that keeps coming into our yard, the dogs are out in their runs and he has learned that they can't hurt him besides bark. Then I set one loose. Wasn't too concerned about the dog actually getting the cat as it was at the far end of the property and had ample time to see the dog coming and jump the fence. I'm just hoping he learned to stay out of a yard full of terriers.

I agree that it is the cat owner's fault. IT is not your or your dog's fault if someone else's cat wandered into your yard.

I DO sympathize with the fact that some cats are NOT happy inside. My sister has a cat like that. HATES inside, and will bite you because she gets so grumpy, but once my sister gave in and starting letting her outside, she was a much happier, friendlier cat. That said, not long after she starting letting her outside, a sex offender neighbor tried to strangle and poison the cat. Costs my sister hundreds of dollar in vet care to save the cat. Now, that was SICK of him, but my sister also accepted the fact that it was partially her fault for letting her roam. The cat is now back inside 24/7 again, and is a B***. If it were me, I'd rehome the cat to where it could be an inside/outside cat more safely.

yeah, i think my kitty would be better off rehomed or even PTS if i had to keep the poor thing inside.
I actually cannot keep him inside! he is very smart and has found a few ways of getting out of the house. I dont know how he does it, but I put him in the house at night, and he is gone in the morning. he gets outside with no one letting him out.
