I just had someone contact me wanting a puppy for X-mas, yeah right.............not. Also wanted 'cheap', lol NOT.
And then asked if I bred Jackabees, what in hell is that and of course the answer was no, that I didn't.........didn't condone designer mutts, let alone breed them and if I did know anyone that was breeding them, wouldn't provide their contact info lol.

Anyone heard of this new 'breed'??

Update: I just googled it, beagle x jrt cross, wonderful.............

You know, I did a friend a favor years ago, by posting about my dogs on their new website, although I knew at the time the site wasn't going to be anything more than a place for byb's, mills etc.
I always get these crack pot emails from people that have gone to that site..........really need to remove it.

I don't think its from there.. Are you listed as a breeder on the JRTCC? That is the only place I am listed right now and thats where they got it from...

This is what I got....
Hello,

I was looking online for dog breeders, and came across your name. This year of 2008 I was interested in getting a small, tri-coloured, smooth coated Jack Russell terrier for a cheap price. Are you still breeding dogs by any chance?

If so, what time of the year do you breed? I was hoping to receive one by this comming christmas.

How early of age do you give away the puppy? and also what price range do you sell your puppies for?

P.S: By any chance do you breed Jackabees, if not do you know anyone who does or could?

Please reply back
This is what I sent back...

Hi
Most of our dogs are roughs and we match people up by temperament of puppy
not by colour. Our puppies are NOT cheap as it costs money to do the health
tests, title the parents and give high quality care to the mom and her pups.
We sell them for 750 with full health and temperament guarantees. They can
be placed in the new home at 8 weeks to 12 weeks depending on the pup and
the home it is going too.

We breed at all times of year but only once every few years. We are
expecting a litter this winter, but these pups are not likely suitable for
pet homes, they will be performance/hunting prospects.

I have no idea what a Jackabee is, but if it some cross then no I don't, nor
do I condone the crossing of dogs for the pet market. (I am fine with cross
breeding for a specific purpose in mind.. ie a better working dog with full health testing of both parents) You will not find a reputable breeder who crosses breeds
for the pet market. Only back yard breeders and puppy mills do that. The
shelters full of cute mixed breeds needing homes as are rescues. If you are
looking for a small great pet for a reasonable price I suggest you check out
www.petfinder.com as well as your local shelter.

What would a "Jackabee" have to offer? I know people create some mixes under the guise of "hypoallergenic" or mixes like "Puggles" because they have little screwed up muzzles (longer than a Pug but still wrinkled) and they think that is cute. Wouldn't the Jackabee just look like a fat headed JRT or a thinner muzzled Beagle?

this sort of cross is fairly common in britain for bushing dogs. bushing dogs flush game to the lurchers. pure beagles are too open and cockers too soft so both are crossed to each other & to terriers to get something w/good nose & drive, but not so driven as to be a killer.

Honestly, there are now a lot of designer mixes out there that don't make any sense . . . either the name is "cute" or they are two breeds that people like and so they mix them together. There's no logic, as there is with the poo-crosses or the puggles. Consider it the next step down the slope.

I actually saw one of these. It looked like a poorly bred beagle, which I assumed it was until its owner proudly informed me otherwise. It isn't an attractive combination, at least in that case.

Heyyyy....maybe THAT's what kind of dog my neighbor has...she's telling everyone he's a purebred beagle, but he ain't no beagle! I could see him being a beagle/JRT cross though.

so they have the instinct to track and chase but unlike a Beagle...will really try to kill whatevers on the end of the trail LOL. That's what I see....with that mix.

Putting prey drive, and likely dog aggression, where there isn't much...adding it to search/track drive...niiice.

What kind of quarry?? Because its my understanding that when hunting with terriers and lurchers, its the lurcher that is the draw dog and it kills the quarry.

The JRT is suppose to bay and not slay, so it bolts the quarry and the lurcher dispatches of it.................

So I am a little confused as to how a beagle/jrt cross would be of benefit in that kind of situation, considering that the dog would probably be to large for earth work, unless they were flushing topside in hedgerows were the lurcher couldn't fit......

bushing dogs flush rabbit, hare, fox and deer to be caught by the lurchers (although now the dogs are generally only slipped on rabbit as the others can only legally be shot). bushing isn't earthwork it's simply pushing game from dense growth into the open. yes pure spaniels are sometimes used as are pure beagles & terriers. white terriers are prefferred for crossing because they put just enough heat to force game out but not so much as to kill it. and yes according to what the brits have taught me white terriers are for bolting & dark terriers are for killing game in the hole.

jackabee huh... sounds pretty stupid... and definitely not attractive. Sigh. I'm sure there are plenty of JRT and Beagle mixes at their local pound... I'd rather they go there and assign a designer name to whatever mutt they pick out rather than purchase one.

It sucks being "known" in your breed sometimes. Unless you really enjoy "interesting" emails. LOL!

On the topic of designer mutts, I sometimes think they randomly put two breeds next to each other and see if they can come up with a nice, marketable name out of that cross. That's why poodles cross with anything, because you can stick a cute little "oodle" or "poo" on there.

She did email me back and thank me for the link.

Ugg so you cross two very independant breeds, one with a rep for wandering off after a smell and one who has a rep for taking on anything resembling quarry.....

I can see that being a very BAD cross. If there is any instinct at all in them I predict tragic deaths for anyone of them that get loose.
