So I got a nice surprise today!
I needed to mail a large box for work today, so I packed everything away, put Pit on leash, grabbed my keys and headed to my car with a hefty handful of goodies.
I think I should start by saying that Pit's "drop it" is something that needs some work. OK, to be honest, I haven't worked on it much at all since he was a young puppy. I usually rely on his "leave it" which is pretty solid and has been working out well thus far.
Along the way, he found some old chicken bones in the grass without my knowing and started eating them, despite my protest. I gave him the "drop it" command to no avail, so I dropped my cargo and reached in his mouth to remove the bones, all the while Pit continued happily munching away. He's apparently really good at shuffling things around in his mouth because I had a very hard time finding these bones and had to feel around while he continued consuming his precious snack, eventually chomping right into my finger.
What did I gain from this experience? 3 large holes in a swollen and bruised finger, and more motivation than ever to brush up on our basics.
Which commands do you guys consider your "basics" for your dogs? Apparently my memory needs some refreshing!
