Holistic Pet Care
Some of these practices are more "commonsense" than you might think. Visit some of the featured sites to find out more about Natural healthcare for your pet. |
Alternative Medicine is rapidly gaining attention as a viable protocol in the management of health and wellbeing in "human" medicine. But perhaps the recognition it's receiving is equalled, if not surpassed, by practitioners in the field of veterinarian medicine. Do DVM's know something we don't?
So what is it? Well, alternative medicine is an umbrella term that encompasses many different practices, many of which have been around for centuries. Homeopathy is one of the modalities practiced (modality is med-speak for a method of therapy, which I could've said instead, but "modality" sounds so cool). A great all-round explanation for homeopathy as it relates to pet care can be found at Homeopathic Primer. In brief, homeopathy functions on the principle of "Like treats Like" Somewhat similar to immunization, but with some very important differences. Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the body's defense system by provoking a healing response with the introduction of a substance that will create the same symptoms of the existing disease condition in the patient, and thereby also create a healing response that not only attacks the homeopathically induced conditions, but also those of the disease. Also attention is paid towards reestablishing harmony and balance to the body and its mechanisms. After all, why cure the condition, and yet leave the body open to other diseases?
Other treatments include acupuncture, herbal remedies and nutrional care. If you look hard, you can find wonderful related articles and sites which focuses on healthcare issues and alternative therapies specifically upon pet care. One such informative starting place is Animal Chiropracty.
There is so much information available, that you might want to consider investing in a few books to add to your library. AltVetMed has a comprehensive selection of published books relating to pet care and alternative medicine at their Library.
