Mid week update...

Snarky snarky dog... This time she had an altercation with Snip. There was a dog scuffle inside the fenced area and Dekka redirected to poor Snip. Once again she poked holes (normally she does not make punctures in fights) Snip is sore. Nasty hormones!!

Dekka has thrown up a few times the last few days. She is also more ravenous than usual so I have upped her mush mix.

Week Four Almost half way!

Feeding changes
Starting to feed her a little more. Sometimes she is ravenous sometimes she isn't into food. This week we finally got the bison neck

Behaviour Changes

Very defencive/snarky. Tired and sleeps most of the time. Took her to market yesterday, even though we only walked around for 15 min (it started to rain) that knocked her out for the rest of the day.
She has started licking herself more. (I have told her there is still lots of time for cleaning but she doesn't believe me)

Physical Changes
I measured her belly and got 38.5cm.
She is looking distinctly roundish in her belly (even when empty of food).

What is happening in there
The Dekklets are now miniature dogs...

Quote:
After day 30 in the fetus, unborn pups form eyeballs and vision similar to a color-blind human, who can't discern red, yellow or green. Scientists believe that dogs' color blindness adapted from their earliest ancestors who needed to compete for prey against other animals during nighttime.

just read this (from creditable source)
Quote:
All breeds of pregnant dogs carry a litter for roughly 63 days. Unlike human eggs, dog eggs aren't mature when they are released from the ovaries, so they're not ready for fertilization right away. That's why the male dog's sperm will attach to the uterine wall, and wait for several days until the egg matures for fertilization. Because of the time lapse, mothers can bear puppies with two different fathers.
Interesting... (would have fit better at the beginning of the Dekklet Diaries)

Ok ok lol

Week 5 (and a day late)

She is starting to look distinctly preggo. If you don't know her you might not notice.. but I even notice the increased weight when picking her up.

NO waist at all anymore

compare to

And its really noticable when she is lying down.

Feeding changes
No changes... she seems to have less room in her stomach for food these days. I have told her its going to get worse. I think I may end up having to feed her 4-5 small meals a day at this rate.

Behaviour Changes

Still very defencive/snarky. Wants to eat the cocker who is staying with us (not one of MP's dogs) She is growly in general. Dekka is also very needy and her separation issues have returned.

Physical Changes
I measured her belly and its 40cm.
Nipples are more prominent than ever.

What is happening in there

Growing ever growing.

I watched the National Geographic Documentary "In the Womb" It showed 3 species from conception to birth, A dog, an elephant and a dolphin. It was very interesting. I learned that when developing a puppy's intestines develop outside of its body in part of the umbilical cord as the body can't grow fast enough to give them enough space.
